Had a small run in with an M3 today.

He got the jump on me as I was stuck behind some traffic so he was pulling away before I could floor it. Once I did finally floor it he appeared to stop pulling away from me so it looks like the S4 is quicker than the E46 M3 from a rolling start but not by much. I expect he thought he was quicker though as he initially got away.

This is the only car of note that's tried it on with me really. Interesting result.

Ah, the old S4 vs M3 debate! I'd say that the S4 will be as quick (if not quicker) due to the similar power and weight, the B7 S4 was quicker around the TG track when tested and the B8 is quicker than the B7.
The V8 M3 (E90 I think) is a different kettle of fish all together and is aimed more at the RS4/5 than the S4. I still prefer the S4 though as I've never been a BMW fan.

I think the big torque curve is what helps the new S4 be slightly quicker than the E46 plus the transmission.

I reckon it would be close 0-60 dash with the E90 convertible bit would then get left. The coupe would be quicker than the S4 and probably neck and neck with the RS5.

This is a new debate for me. I just wish we would have got an even start so I could have judged properly.

B5 RS4 with MTM remap is quicker than V8 M3, especially along the Pembury by pass.

Lets face it a B5 that is tuned well tends to demolish most things in a straight line.

I would love one as a project car, be nice to make my Beemer crazy mate shut up for a bit.

There is a white RS6 Avant near where I will be living in NZ, think I'll go knock on their door and get them to let me know if they ever want to sell

Thats not surprising the TTRS is THE fastest car in the entire world.....

I was seriously tempted by a 2 or 3 year old RS6 and absolutely love them but was scared off by the running costs, how are you finding it D_K?
