End of Term Report - S4 (B8)

Post by HYFR » Wed Jul 13, 2011 12:12 am

another 3 months and 9,200 miles has flown by in this S4 ...

I went from an S3 and TTS to this, and I remember the first day I picked it up, had to drive to Manchester, and wow, how the luxury and comfort really struck me instantly.

No, im my particular spec, to look at outside and in, its nothing special ... but actually, it is.

As a cruiser, I give it 9/10 ... as a bruiser I give it 3/10 - in my spec

The thing im acutely aware of with the B8 is, if you have it in bog standard trim, like mine ... its 'just' a comfy cruiser packing 333PS

but, spec the Audi Drive Select, Sport Differential, 19"s and SS Seats - then your cruisin for a bruisin' 8)

Although mine is bog standard in terms of performance upgrades, it does have the Tech Pack High, which is fecking awesome

we're talking HDD 3D nav, 10GB jukebox, bluetooth, DVD player, full Speech Dialogue System (control everything!)

and, I dont even have BOSE, but you dont need it ... the stock system is awesome! can even set the DSP to focus the sound to the driver or all.

I also had comforts such as auto lights/wipers/cruise/dimming/boot/electric heated seats etc

Basically, it was VERY comfy ...

Right ... the ENGINE

superb engine.

3.0 V6 Supercharged

Nice V6 burble (Subtle) and then nice whine from the 'charger
LOADS of torque !

This car is proper rapid up to about 90 .... you can do some proper good launches and dump the clutch in 1,2,3 and it takes all the pain and just PULLS!!!

Took it to a meet, and it held its own again Sarge (550PS) in 50-90 drags

So, not to be underestimated

The let down, in the spec of my S4 is the handling and feel

In standard spec, the car rolls too much

It understeers massively if you plough too much speed into the corner

The steering feel is almost non existant, and really does not fill you with confidence

BUT, all of these things can be solved by the right spec, so I'll just put mine down to being a 'Comfort Spec'

a nice party trick the car has is the fuel economy

over 9,200 miles ... the average MPG is 29.0 MPG ... thats the average!

ANY long run, your looking 30+ easy all day long

My normaly commute to work = 33mpg all day everyday

Thats better than both the S3 and TTS despite the 60PS more

Basically, to some it up ... I really really rate the S4

Its proper quick, and the customer has the ability to spec it as a cruiser, or a bruiser

For the miles I do, I go for the cruiser option, and save the banana B7 for the weekends.

The ultimate compliment I can pay the car is that I've ordered another one !!

This time I've plumped for S-Tronic and Super Sport Seats and gone for Red !

Anyhow, tomorrow I collect an A5 Cabriolet S-Line 2.0TDI 170PS, pimped out in Monza Silver and C6 19's .... thats the summer car for a road trip to Greece

Then roll on October for the TTRS - THE BEST CAR IN THE WORLD. FULL STOP

29mpg.....mine went back after 7000 miles with 17.9mpg as average for the 7k I had it. Admittedly, I didn't do a huge amount of motorway but the only way I got 30mpg was on 95% motorway journey from Reading to Warrington 360 mile round trip.

The TTRS on the other hand........I nail it everywhere and still have 25.6mpg as the average for the past 600 miles.

You'll be very, very pleased with the TTRS, I wish I'd gone straight into it from the RS4.....very, very similar proposition.....without (fingers crossed) any of the niggles.

A right proper point and squirt machine with a beuatiful burble.......get the sports exhuast!!!
