Great Drive

Just been for a drive in one and I was very impressed with everything about the car.

The car feels really well planted with not too firm a ride where you find yourself dodging potholes in fear of putting your back out. I did get a feel for the new vector which I believe is similar to the technology like Active Yaw and is impressive in that it can speed up individual wheels to improve handling.

The cabin finish is every bit as good as the B6 and B7 and the seats really do hug you tight. Admittedly not like the seats in the B7 RS but for those of ius with more girth they are far more practical.

The DSG 7 speed box is a treat to use and every bit as good at the SMG box from the M power BMW's. I like the quad pipes too!

The throttle response is the most impressive thing for me and I guess that's down to the impressive supercharger which delivers power in whichever gear and across the whole spectrum of the rev range. Slipping the car into 7th gear at 70mph was a breeze and it picked up nicely under full throttle. I did get a droning sound which worried me so I backed off and dropped it down a cog. :D

It's going to be a belter of a buy for those who have one on order and even better a buy for those waiting 18months for the initial depreciation (moi?)

Anyway well done Audi for excelling yourselves yet again. Now bring on the RS (not in the B8 unfortunately)

Sorry - should post a more relevant post really...

Can't like the car as much as I probably should; the B8, for me, is more of a Company Car man car.
Too many S-Line 2.0TDI's with B7 RS4 (similar) replica wheels around (no pun intended for those who have one; still a nice looking car...)

I feel the S4 doesn't look much different from a nice looking 2.7TDI S-Line, and for me, whereby it still does need to pertain a subtle look, doesn't look significant enough.

However, I would like to experience the drive to get a feel for the supercharger vs. turbo's though.

Ditto my thoughts aswell.

I can't seem to get to like the B8 shape, espicially from the rear. It looks to 'small' similar to a 3 series, which seems to carry it off better.
Also, the S4 doesn't look different enough from all the S lines you see every day.

Nice interior though

Nice interior apart from that foul steering wheel. Not super keen on the outside of these but hope to change my mind.

I picked up a 2.0T A4 Avant S-line a month ago (it's going back due to them missing quattro and hence I'm still pondering the replacement) and the sales guy made a point of comparing it side by side with an S4.

They had the same 19" wheels and the body kit etc is exactly the same. The S4 gets quad pipes, silver mirrors, grey grill and a couple of badges. It's really not a lot of difference. When I had my B6 S4 is was the same whenever I was a B6 S-line. It's handy for stealth but not good if you want to be a little different.

The heart says go S4 Avant and the brain says the 2.0T is enough. :?

That would probably be the reason why I would consider it - no-one would take a second look, either on the road or when parked and sometimes that's a good thing!

The Audi S models have always been very subtle.

Yes agree, but from B7 onwards have they become TOO subtle? The B5 & 6 at least stood out a little from the rest of the range with the unique Avus wheels and front grilles etc

yes S cars have always been very subtle . . but i dont like the fact it comes with the B7 RS 4 reps . . should have some unique S wheels

though i do like the subtle look. . . wouldnt want to look like an M3 now would we !

Plus, the S4 is to go against the 335i. . . not the M3, thats left to the RS 4 / 5 - now they are everything but sutble !

I'm booked in for a test drive the weekend so i will be interested to see what it sounds and drives like. I'm just thinking even before the test drive by the time i have added a few toys hear and there I'm past the £40k mark. Is this how much i want to pay for an S4.....Just cannot see the residuals on these being that good.

The S4 does get unique wheels. They're 18" "5 double spokes S" wheels.

The S4 seems to be winning the reviews against the 335i.
