Nice find

Sounds sweet - in fact far better than I was imagining it would.

Found another glowing review here:

Will be putting a deposit down shortly!

The new S4 is in this weeks Auto Express too, but not too much info on the drive itself. Looks like they only had it for a short time.

It should do, I can't think of an RS model that has a different engine size / no. cylinders than it's S counterpart?

Maybe it will have twin super chargers LOL!

Yea I was thinking the same, unless the V6 will have FSI technology!

Is it enough to tempt B7 RS4 owners out of their cars? For me, not really, although I have no doubt that with S-Tronic box it will be as quick if not quicker than me in my RS4. I just can't quite get on with the new dash layout, the electric handbrake, the looks of the B8 Avant from the rear and I would miss my V8 sountrack.

Does look interesting, i'm toying with a test drive to compare against the B7 S4 but wouldn't buy one for the same reasons above, particularly the handbrake but would like the improved economy.

If you want inproved economy on the B7 S4. if you have not done so already get it remapped. I had my B6 remapped and not only does it give more horese power and torque but around 10% better fuel economy as well.

I am defintiely considering upgrading. The new S4 is an evolution from the B6/B7 wrt performance (more hp & torque at every rpm), improved handling (revised ESP & Auto Drive Select) and economy (up by 30%). I imagine it will give RS4 owners a shock when they start appearing. The only down side for me is the styling, too bland even by audi standards and the price. That is why I going to wait until late 2009/2010 to get my hands on one. Let someone else take the hit for being the first to drive it off the forecourt.

I thought that was the whole point of the S models though?

By bland I mean that this version will be no different from a 2.0TDi S-Line. Previous S models have differed from other A4 models.

Hmmm possibly you have a point, but then it's no worse a differentiation than that between the B7 S4 & B7 S-line A4s. What worries me slightly is the almost "barge-like" appearance of the B8 having seen a few of the new S-line A4s in the flesh. Still very nice, but maybe not 'squat' enough IMO for a sports saloon.

I think the price is actually pretty reasonable considering the spec (it's been reduced since the prices were first revealed too)

I should have been more specific and stated B6 becasue your correct that a B7 S4 looks no different from a B7 S-Line A4's.

On the price issue I spec'd a S4 up and the price was nearly 45K....! There was about 10K worth of options.

Yep the options are where they get you by the b*ll*cks

Base price though is cheaper than the B6/7 - even cheaper on Broadspeed
