Winter Tyre width for S4 Avant B8.5

Standard Tyres are 255/35r19 on my B8.5 S4 Avant Black Edition, on presumably 19x8.5J rims.
Has anyone put narrower tyres on these rims? Wondering whether my winter tyres will fit. I have a set of 235/35r19 winter tyres in my shed.
What impact would the narrower tyre have? I think 235 is within the limits for the 8.5J rim without stretching the tyre.
I can see it is likely to mean I am going marginally slower than the speedometer says (circumference will be 2% less), and of course, there will be more alloy to kerb since the tyre is 20mm narrower.
But otherwise, any reason why I shouldn't? Narrower tyre is better for winter, but what impact on handling?
