Hi guys my 2011 S4 avant (manual) has developed a strange noise - any ideas what this could be:

Consistent drone/hum in the cabin from about 30 mph upwards. Rises and drops in note in line with car speed not engine speed/revs or gear changes. Seems quite an "internal noise" in the cabin i.e. Not any louder if you drop the windows. Noise doesn't sound like it's under the bonnet more central.

My first thought was wheel bearings but turning/cornering makes no difference.

No noticeable difference in throttle response or steering feel/vibration

Any thoughts welcome thanks!

Does the noise pitch increase with speed. If so then possibly crown gear differential.

Yes it gets higher/louder as speed increases so could well be right. I'm booked in to get it looked at.
