Issues selling my S4 Avant

Post by darius6745 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 1:14 pm

Hi guys,

Ive been trying to sell my car since may and I'm really struggling and i can't figure out why I've had no takers. Ive lowered the price and still no bites. It is now the cheapest S4 Avant I've seen for the milage/age etc. Ive listed it on eBay twice and got 40 plus watchers and over 2000 views each time. Listed on piston heads and now I've bit the bullet and put it on Auto trader and there has been 550 views in 4 days. All this advertising you would expect a decent response but i have had 1 phone call....yes 1! I just don't understand why.

Im only selling the car as i ordered my new car back in may and there is a 12 week waiting listing which was great as it gave me plenty of time to sell mine. And now I'm shitting it that I'm going to end up with 2 cars at this rate which i cannot afford as much i would love to keep it :)

There really is nothing wrong with it at all. Full history, fantastic condition etc. So i thought i would post on here and ask you guy why you think I've had so many views on listings but only 1 phone call.

Please not I'm not trying to sell my car on here with this post but to get help with selling. Put a link to auto trader as i can't seem to add pic to this post at the moment.

Any comments really appreciated.

Too cheap, something must be wrong with it.

Has it got the sportdiff/ADS?

Yep but that's the perception.
Manual cars had an option for the sportdiff, didn't they? Has yours got the sportdiff?

It'll be on your options list, I guess.

The only thing I would say from reading that advert is that it doesn't really give much confidence that you have really cherished the car. I.e reads like an ad where the person isn't really passionate about why they're selling.
Not trying to criticise by the way, just conscious that if I was a buyer, I'd be looking to know whether the car had been cherished/loved by a real enthusiast.
That might reflect more on my own issues than anything else but I'm sure I'm not alone.

The colour and spec are the reason. Dark blue, no parking sensors, no 19s, no Nav, no B&O, no cruise, no full leather, no super sports seats, no carbon trim. Definitely doesn't have any of the Audi Drive Select options such as the sports diff.

For Autotrader, the advert is fine (I'd give the interior a quick wipe down, brush the mats and retake the interior photos though). Its not too cheap. You have to price it cheap enough to make someone compromise on the spec and buy it. 14,995 would get your phone ringing?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it does seem like everyone want all these options. Didn't bother me, i just wanted an S4. Im offering it around dealers at the moment, 1 has offered 15k which isn't too bad so i think i will end up going down this route. cheers

£15k, I'd bite their hand off!!

I struggled to get £15k for a similarly spec'd Sprint blue avant which had only covered 40k miles, six months ago!!

As said above, everybody wants nav, ss seats, sports dif, B & O etc. Also, the s-tronics are much more sought after as they are cheaper to tax. Seem to remember £270vs£500 per year!!
Current:
B9 RS4 Avant in Missano
1991 Mk2 Golf GTI 8v, Big Bumper in Oak Green
1960 VW Beetle 1200 (6 volt, 34hp!)
1999 Porsche Boxster 2.5

On Order:
B9.5 RS4 Avant in Daytona

Previous:
3 x B7 Avants in Sprint, Phantom and Daytona (Loved that car!!)
3 x B8 Avants in Daytona, Phantom and Ibis
2 x B9 Avants in Missano (x2), Daytona
1 x B8 S4 Avant in Sprint
