A call to MRC with that registration to get their view of the fault perhaps?
Agree this is not a great advert, but car looks ok.

Agree with Silverfox. I'd be very wary of anyone openly saying 'it's fine honestly' though. He doth protest too much perhaps?!

Re: Anyone know this car and thoughts??
My experience for what's it's worth - I had a gearbox warning on my b8 s4 stronic, it went through 2 messages (can't remember them exactly to quote) but they did say you could continue to drive and there weren't any other noticeable factors - as I was up north my closest centre was an Audi dealer, it was diagnosed as a faulty speed sensor which happens to be in the middle of the gearbox, parts and 15hrs labour from the stealers came to £2,500. Mechatrnoic box was checked over and was (and thankfully still is, fine) might be a more sinister mechanical issue but either way it's likely to be very pricey to fix that "niggle"!
Re: Anyone know this car and thoughts??
It was a while ago but I also had a problem with a gearbox sensor on mine. It was rare but occasionally it would cause the car to go in to 'limp home mode'. Apparently it's not an uncommon fault on these but as mentioned above, it was a tiny, relatively cheap sensor but big job to get to it. I have a really good specialist near me who did the work and it cost a little under 1k to be sorted I seem to remember. I suppose at least I got the gearbox old etc changed while they were at it!
No problems since then though.

Did you go and have a look at it in the end?

Re: Anyone know this car and thoughts??
I recently encountered a very similar sounding issue on my S4 which turned out to be an intermittent faulty selector lever sensor, documented here: http://audisrs.com/sutra715044.php#715044
I spoke to MRC about the possibility of them repairing it and at the time they turned me away due to the complexity of the job and the need for too many specialist tools to make it worth their while. Funnily enough though they'd recently had another S4 in with the exact same issue and they said that owner decided to sell up due to the costs involved in repairing it. Too much of a coincidence if you ask me, so this is definitely one to avoid IMO.

Well that's a really constructive comment to the subject !Paul789 wrote:S cars = rattle boxes. Total sh!te. RS cars - properly screwed together.
Re: Anyone know this car and thoughts??
Actually, I think it is! It was meant to be. I have had S3, S4, S5, SQ5 (and an A5 and A6) and they all rattled to to the point of insanity. I now have an RS4 and it doesn't rattle and it's got a proper engine. My advice is, if you can, stretch a little bit further.Norfolk Red wrote:Well that's a really constructive comment to the subject !Paul789 wrote:S cars = rattle boxes. Total sh!te. And, in addition to that, it drew you out of an impressive lurk.
