Michelin pss, ps2 or ps3 ???

Post by jerrys4 » Tue Jul 14, 2015 6:46 am

Thinking about getting a set of these for my S4 Avant, 255/35 x19.
Just wondering what your experiences with them are.
Looking for decent milage out of them, but also grip, as heading over to the Nurburgring next month.
Cheers in advance [THUMBS UP SIGN]

Best tyre by far. I think its hard to get ps2s now, but PSS or whatever the latest is will be a great choice

PSS are the real deal, the others are "economy" or superceded versions in one way or another.

Had these on the S4 and cannot fault them for dry grip and wear rate.
I have changed to Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric 2's and although they are not as sticky in the dry conditions, they are excellent in the wet... and staying up in Scotland, that is a good trait to have for a tyre.

Overall though I would highly recommend both makes.

Why would you pick the budget version over the other two? You can get Super Sports for £144 a tyre. Can't personally see a reason not to go for them. Best tyre by far IMO.

I was just thinking that the super sports would wear out a lot faster than the PS3'S, as I do a fair bit of milage.

They might last a little longer, but they are not as good in all other areas. There will always be a compromise one way or another so personal preference I suppose.

PS3's are stock on many mainstream cars (DS4, A4, etc, etc). Super Sports on many 'sports' cars from M135i hatchbacks through to 458 Italia's.

Haha, yeah, my heart was saying super sports, but my head was saying PS3'S.
So that will be the super sports on order then.

I'm actually quite surprised at how long the PSS are lasting on mine. I don't really keep tabs on mileage so can't give you numbers, but I was expecting to have had to change them a long time ago, especially with the way I drive!

I don't think PS2/3 are budget or superseded just for the record. They're just different compounds. PSS = softer obv, PS3 is the hardest. the PS2's I had originally were very good too.

That's why I said "economy" not "budget" (re PS3). I think PS2's are superceded though.

PS2's are not supersued, this was common misconception when the Super Sport was introduced. The PS3 is another model (Primacy maybe, but don't quote me) that has been brought under the Pilot Sport banner. It's all marketing I suppose. There was a Michelin video floating around somewhere on the differences. You can probably find it on YouTube. PS2's are great tyres too BTW.
