S-tronic - manual shifting via the stick back-to-front?

Calling all you S-tronic owners...

I spend a lot of time in "M" and mostly use the paddles to shuffle up and down through the 'box, but occasionally I feel the urge to use the up/down action of the gear stick itself. To me though it's totally arse-about-face. I've spent years watching BTCC and WRC drivers with their long sequential gear shifter sticks, and they pull back to go up a gear (e.g. 2nd to 3rd) and then push forward to go down a gear (e.g. 3rd to 2nd). On my S4 when you pull back on the stick the thing shifts down a gear

Firstly, is that the same for everyone? Secondly, does anyone know if this can be flipped?

too true - real sequential box should pull back to shift up. Maybe Audi missed that memo...

Sure there's some electronic wizard out there that can flip the internal switches for you. Its an electronic system at the end of the day so must be a way around it with enough tinkering.

Aye one of my friends has done this on his D2 A8

Yes pulling back should be upshift and push forward should be down shift. Having said that, my wifes DSG works the way that feels natural but i coudlnt tell you which way round it is.

Seems to be the same across the Audi range. Still confuses me even after all these years of ownership, especially coming from an SMG M-car where it was the 'correct' way around :bash:

Could you find out what he did to achieve this please?

Believe he just removed the gear shifter panel from where it mounts into the dash and swapped the wires round. Its just a pair of switches after all

Brilliant! I'll take a look this weekend and see if it's that simple for us too.
