How to lower my car?

Post by gangstarrrrr » Mon Jun 10, 2013 9:30 am

I'm not enthralled by the way my car sits, it's almost like a wanna be 4x4 with a massive gap between the tyre and wheel arch (will get some pics up later).

Having seen Nicky's S5 getting dropped in one of the other threads I feel like I can and want to get this sorted.

The car was specced with damper control so the suspension stiffness can be altered. Whatever I do, I would like to keep this ability.

Now I am not very technically inclined but wanting to learn. What can I do to lower the car apart from have a fat person sit in/on it?

A good choice. You could try and speak to Grizz at Unit 20 (site Sponsor). He gave me good details about my kit.

You are right though, the arch gap is awful! You'll need spacers as well by the way.

Did you see what Cuppa did with his S5?

Check this thread out. Look about half way down the first post for the photos of the suspension and read all about it there. Switchable dampers from inside the car based on KW V3 coilovers. You can even adjust using an iPhone. I think they are only available for cars that have OEM damper control.

Thanks for the link. Amazing car.

The kit appears to cost ~2k so WAY over budget. If anyone's got any ideas I'm open to hearing them!

What about some KW springs about £200 with H&R Spacers about £200. It will change the car from an S-line to a S4 instantly.

Lots of new KW lowering springs on ebay, or call Grizz at Unit 20 and he can supply everything you need.

Is anyone running spacers on a B8 S4? If so what size.

Something that's on my list, but not sure what to go for. Initially thinking 8mm all round after getting the springs done.

Well my S4 looked just as bad as my S5 and I have 20/25 per side front/rear. Link to my springs and spacers.

D_K has some more spacers for sale which may fit yours:

Only one pair left as I bought the others. If you think 20mm are too much then his 15mm would give you a middle ground (sort of).

20 and 25mm that's a fair chunk. Not sure what I'd need.

Local alloys place has offered to try different sizes on my car after I get the springs done. Then order up hubcentrics.

Actually I have 15/20. It's still a lot though.

I was wrong in my post. My bad really.

I was new to spacing until last month. Made the car so more aggressive looking.

That's what I'm after. Although think it'll be after a visit to mrc. Need to work out when I can get down in July when home from offshore.

Only needs a 25mm drop and spaced to be just shy of flush to look the dogs dangly bits.
