I have a set of nearly new 225 x 18 x 40 Continental Wintersports TS830 sat in my shed that were on my vRS.

Quick question would these fit on my std 18" wheels? i believe they are 18 x 8.5. Or would I have to buy a set of 18 x 7.5?

Be nice to make use of them

I have 225’s fitted to an 8” rim and TBH I wouldn’t want them on a rim any wider I imagine on an 8.5” rim they will have a bit of stretch on them.

I assume the vRS had 7.5” wide rims?

(octimark on Briskoda is looking for some 18” winter tyres)

Slightly off topic. You need to get 19s. Makes the car that bit nicer. Or even better 20s. Should have 19 as standard really. A lot of A4s have 19s which kind of then makes the S4 with 18s seem less beefy than some A4s.

I've garaged my 19s for the winter and replaced them with a set of 18 inch RS6s with winter tyres and while they don't look as nice, the ride and grip in the cold weather/snow is great. I dread to think what the 19 inch summer continentals would have been like over the last week.

The conti's have been tremendous. I haven't had an issue at all in Bristol.

Bristol's like Barbados compared to Newcastle! Let me know how you get on on Friday when 10ft of snow is dumped outside of your house!!!

Nicky, 19's do look nice but I must admit the ride on 18's is unexpectably good. I also think it has the advantage on being more of a Q car (until they see the qaud pipes & then its usually too late  )

Must admit the 4wd has been a godsend in this weather, great improvement over previous FWD's ive owned. However having the winters on the last car I was truly stunned at the improved performance so think the combo with both winters & 4wd will be outstanding.

Longdog, cheers for info. It certainly appears they will 'fit', but as gizmo says they may be a stretch. Unsure which route to take. :?:

Found the most ridiculous hill I could and managed to get up it today. Got temporarily stuck as I'm a bad driver. After some words of advice I was straight up. Conti 3 tyres served me well. I almost left the car as thought I was stuck, some sketchy character came asking me questions about it which made me determined to get up the hill. Bloody did it

Glad you made it back! I've had a good drive today in the snow and thoroughly enjoyed it, had to laugh at a lovely 5 series touring that was spinning his wheels on a flat bit of road trying to get out of a junction, he made it in end safely so I didn't get to ask if he needed a push!

Summer tyres and the auto box probably didn't help Nicky. I'm glad you pulled through. Worth chucking a footpump in the car so you can let the air out the tyres if you get stuck. You will not harm them even at half pressure at walking pace for a few yards on snow.

Mine was epic today on me B5 S4 17" Avus wrapped in Vredestein Wintrac Xtremes. Took the scenic route home leaving work at 5pm, 40 miles of countryside and single track lanes, nobody else about, took it easy, no heroics, one provoked opposite lock moment to get a feel. Left traction control off and kept in a lower gear so I could power out if I needed, did a few tests, the grip accelerating uphill was amazing without spinning up, as was the braking retardation downhill without the abs started juddering. Absolutely night and day!

Would really recommend you boys a set of 18" winters (17s won't clear your brakes sadly)

Out and about today on the vredestein wintracs on 19s. Impressed. Didn't give them too much of a test but was surprised to see the tread doesn't gather any snow at all.

Yeah they are awesome, I cannot get over how quickly you can stop! I just popped a post and pics in the 'snow' thread after going out to play again tonight.
