Looks even more like the 2006 TT if you cover your hand over the rear estate portion....

Re: Potential new order
OK, so an interesting weekend that started out with me driving my vRS, test driving both a 62 plate S4 and an 09 plate GTR, and driving home in a 1.0L 3 cylinder Citigo!
I decided to kill 2 birds by getting the vRS serviced and test driving a S4 round the corner at Lincoln Audi.
First the S4 -
Very good looking car in Monsoon Grey. Sound Pack, Tech Pack & Supersports seats. Not the exact spec I was after but nice & available IMMEDIATELY
Anyhow this was the first time I had driven an S4 so was very unsure how I was going to feel. I won't bore you with intimate details as I'm sure you guys know exactly what's what.
So in brief - my first impressions were very good, well put together, quiet (coming from an Octavia) and very composed on the road. It didn't seem particulary quick but I'm guessing (I'm not) this was down the the smooth effortless way it makes progress through the gears. Full marks to Kevin at Audi for letting me squirt the throttle a few times and not gettig to agitated.
The next stop was Grimsby to view the GTR. I have dreamed of owning this car for longer than the S4 so wanted to make sure once and for all that I wasn't making a mistake with the S4.
A quick call came from the Skoda garage followed to say they had broken my sump pan and it couldn't be repair till next week
Hence the loan Citigo AKA Noddy.
I (eventually) arrived at the GTR and was looking forward to exorcising the demons from within.
My first thoughts were from the outside it looked at beast, there was no mistaking this was a serious machine. Inside was a cross between Nissan of old, a PS3 and several dead cows, but somehow I liked it. After the car was prepped and fuelled, I swapped seats and readied myself.
I must say for the first few miles I pretty much tip-toed around, not wanting to make any silly mistakes or frightening the Nissan guy. However after a few conversations it became quite obvious that he expected me to explore its full potential. Alrighty then. After a few blips, each time getting more adventurous I was directed to a few roads that were pretty much dead, and much straighter (and flatter). I nodded the OK and he winked back and I floored it - Jeeeeeesuuusssss H Chriiiissstt! The noise, speed. Pretty much everything blurred around me. This thing flew, and it let you know. This car was polar opposite to the S4, unrefined and raw.
So that was my weekend, and now to the tricky bit. To buy or not to buy.
Well first off, I've already ruled out the GTR. It was every bit the performance car I had hoped for (and more), but as much as I hear people using them as a daily drive I'm afraid I couldn't. It was noisy, crashy and not comfortable to drive at slow speed (jerky transmission and tramlining), and not too mention the lack of boot. There were just too many sacrifices to make for its one saving glory - speed. Oodles & Oodles of speed!
The S4 then. Well Audi made me an offer (£26k & my car, £36k in all) which they reduced by £1k on the day and I said I would sleep on it. Today, I have called and said I would do a deal if they could knock a further £1k off. It was a 'no' from them. Frankly had it been nearer the spec I wanted I would have dealt, but I was happy to walk unless it was a really good deal.
So either they will call in the next few days or I will have to put the order in for a brand spanking new S4 very soon.
Oh and by the way, the Citigo is growing on me! Good job 'cosI've got 500miles to travel next week in it

I expect they will be back with a call and an offer!
Enjoy the citigo, I expect it will be quite fun to a degree what do you think.
I had until recently a new smart in my fleet and everybody thought I was bonkers!

Re: Potential new order
Pooch, maybe get on 'drive the deal' or similar and build your perfect spec without going too mad on the options list. Will give you an idea of the price difference between the S4 you drove, and the perfect spec 'new build' car.

Re: Potential new order
I know you all make sense, but I'm impatient
I could have this car on Wednesday
The difference between the DtD price new and this car is only about £2k! It has all the creature comforts I wanted but lacks the ADS, damper control & sports diff. I'm just trying to think how much I would need / miss them. is it worth waiting 6months. One other thing to bear in mind is that they have give me a fair price for my car, and in 3 months the Octavia 3 is launched and my cars value will drop like a lead balloon
I have seen that they have rang me 30 mins ago, so just trying to play it cool at the moment and deciding which way to go if they have dropped the price.
Decisions, decisions...........heeeeelp!

They were probably the three top things on my list when I started configuring my S4.
I ended up ordering the car I wanted, paying pretty close to DtD price, and got the dealership to agree on a price for my px when I placed the order for the S4, even though they were getting my car 5 months later.

I think you get a lite version of drive select if you just purchase the SD only (Allows you to control the throttle, engine, and steering)...alteast that's what I read a while back, so if that's correct you can save a few ££

Re: Potential new order
I don't have the differential and as posted earlier managed to take a wet corner way too fast without any movement, apart from my backside.
I don't think I'll ever drive it that hard intentionally so don't need the sport diff. However, I have no idea what it is like with one and how much difference there is. A lot of the guys on here have it and say its brilliant and these guys know their stuff.
I would love to try one with the diff to see the difference.
The throttle can be sharpened up without ADS as can the exhaust noise by putting the gearbox in 'S'.
If I was you then I'd take the one they have but that's because I'm impatient. It also makes sense to get the spec you want.

Re: Potential new order
i bought my car as a demonstrator in 2010 615 miles on the clock I dont have ADS or sport diff on mine and would and probably would not use it if i had it,my car has all the options that i would have ordered from new except sunroof which i have not missed considering my last 3 cars have been merc convertibles.if the deal is right go for it as you are going to loose more money on your part ex in 6months.999pooch wrote:I know you all make sense, but I'm impatientI could have this car on Wednesday

Don't be stupid boy!
You are buying a BRAND new car!! This entitles you to spec it as desired. That is the benefit of buying new, that is the premium you pay for.
If you are going to compromise, buy a 6month old one and save yourself £8k in the process.

If you use a sim card in the car for data, the car will use this sim for voice as well, instead of your own mobile.gangstarrrrr wrote:Correct. It doesn't support the necessary protocol. But you can pick up a cheapo SIM card that does data only for about 10 quid for the year.535dboy wrote:I think that is true (there were the same debates on the new boxster when I ordered that but went 'Hi' anyway) but am I right in thinking Audi connect doesn't work with iPhone.gangstarrrrr wrote:
I have Bluetooth low and that brings the phone book in. The standard probably does too but I don't know. I should have got Bluetooth high, the price difference is relatively small and Audi Connect looks great.
Bluetooth High with Audi Connect works with phones that have the rSAP (Remote Sim Access Protocol) like Samsung S3 and others but no iPhones.
The Good news is that Apple agreed to play ball, and as of week 22, Bluetooth High with Audi Connect WILL work with iPhones. (according to West London Audi yesterday...) I also understood that this feature will not be retrofitable...
