I'd be after an RS6 not an S4 if I had 40k to spend!!

I just got out of a C5 RS6 for my new (to me) S4 and can't say I regret it - I miss the crazy BiTurbo V8 torque, but little else. I also had use of a C6 RS6 for a short period of time and whilst monstrously quick in a straight line, was nowhere near as involving dynamically as my manual S4. Horses for courses I suspect, but I am of the view that the S4 (particularly a tweaked one with 430bhp, Drive Select and the tricky diff) is the real dark horse of the current Audi range.

Thats interesting Ringa comments, and I agree the handling does make a huge difference, did you pretty much drive the B8 S4 and C6 RS6 back-to-back?

Unsure if the RS6 would fit in my garage, it's slightly too big. Unfortunately it's not 40k cash it's finance and it appears that the interest rate offered on used cars isn't as good as a new one this making monthly payments higher. I can afford higher monthlys but I would have to sacrifice other aspects of life. Wish I wasnt a petrol head as its going to cost me a fortune on my quest for the next car up.

If you've got your heart set on an S4 get one, i'm sure you won't regret it. I ordered my BE S4 Avant in december and have just had a build week 14 confirmed so should get it in May. For me it ticks all the boxes and i'd even go as far as saying that it's as good dynamically as the B7 RS4 as long as you tick the right options.

Buy one and enjoy!

Close enough to be sure in my mind. The C6 RS6's are just sooo big and with all the options, nearly the wrong side of 2.3 tonnes - that's just crazy! Add to that 14.5mpg day-to-day and at best 20mpg on a run and you end up with a massive car, whose abilities in terms of power cannot be exploited on the road for more than 2 seconds at a time, which doesn't involve dynamically and costs a fortune to run.

Whereas the S4 hits 32-34mpg on a run, high 20's day-to-day and mid 20's when tooling around. 430bhp in 1700kg (252bhp/tonne) is not far off 570bhp in 2300kgs (247bhp/tonne), although once the same remap is applied to the C6 to make it 700bhp, then that brings it up to 300bhp/tonne. BUT, and this is the cool bit, with Drive Select and the tricky diff, the balance is entirely rear-lead and you can feel that drive being pushed to the rear wheels and the car kinda drifts out of damp roundabouts with a whiff of rear slip. It's so much more involving and fun. Just my take on things though mind....

I rescued the big ceramic brakes off my C5 RS6 and these will be going onto the S4 in the next week or so, as the OEM solid discs with single pot sliding calipers have no right to grace a car of such abilities. Clearly the work of an accountant rather than an engineer...

Took the plunge and put a deposit down. Had to take one that is already ordered so I have a white saloon black edition with no extras. As long as I got the B&O, 19's, the V6 and 4WD I'm happy. Had to take an existing order to qualify for the low APR and the 2300 contribution from Audi. They are stating BW 28 so will fall outside the offer period, I just have to hope they will me have the deal still as I have it on order. Fingers crossed. I'm very excited. Not even driven one yet!

Forgot to add. Monthlys work out less on a new one compared to 2nd hand due to residuals. Depends whether you look at monthlys like me or look at total debt.

I have ADS but only on the suspension, one of my biggest regrets is the fact that i didnt get the sports diff. Does anyone know if its possible to retro fit?

I have ordered the facelift version and it looks like I may not get it till September! Well outside of the offer period so fingers crossed they extend it.

Why do you regret it? I am guessing you need to push the car hard to even use the sports differential?
