Roof bars and box - Avant
Hi
Anyone put a roof box on their s4 Avant (b8) ? I am going to need one and have no idea on what is best. I see that Audi do their own ones which look nice but being a complete virgin on this subject I could do with some help, just in case there are aftermarket options which are better.
I am assuming that as the S4 Avant has the built in roof rails that the bars simply attach to this and then the box on top.
Many thanks !

I have a set of Thule bars for mine, they clamp on to the roof rails with an Allen key then have a locking cover.

I also use Thule bars, very easy to fit.
Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
Interested if anyone has added cycle carriers to their Thule bars as well, and if so which you would recommend? Ideally I'd want up to 4 (if they will fit). 2010 B8 S4 Avant.

Hmmmm
Depending on the weight of them you might be better off with a towball carrier, but for roofmount, you won't beat a thule proride 591 and you should fit 4 across a set of normal bars.
Also places like roofbox.co.UK will match your existing locks for you.

^^^ thanks.
Sorry, being thick, but what do you mean?tmg wrote:Also places like roofbox.co.UK will match your existing locks for you.
Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
hey
so if you have an existing set of thule locks, they are coded to a certain key. roofbox.co.uk will code all the new barrels (three on a proride 591 iirc) to the same key (or at least supply you with the correct barrels and locks to do it yourself.
its very handy to have just one key for all your thule stuff (I have a g6 towball carrier, two prorides, two sets of bars, and all on the same key)

Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
Anyone used the OEM roof bars?
Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
Yes, I have the OEM bars on my Avant. very easy to fit, they locate on the lugs on the inner face of the rails and clamp around the flange on the outer face.
I wouldn't want to load bikes up there though, too bloody high and too much of a reach. I use a towbar mounted carrier (from Halfords, tips away from the tailgate to open it when loaded up) with a Westfalia removable towbar. Works a treat...

Interesting, thanks. Have you got a higher res pic of the above, so I can see the bars in situ on a real car. Difficult to tell from a generic brochure pic how far, for example, the bars extend widthways.Fliptop wrote:Yes, I have the OEM bars on my Avant. very easy to fit, they locate on the lugs on the inner face of the rails and clamp around the flange on the outer face.

Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
Sorry, that's all I have, but they only extend very slightly beyond the rails. I could measure them up if that would help?

Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
No, don't worry, I'll probably go into a dealers and see if they have got some they can show me. Be interested to see how they compare to the non-OEM Thule ones (who I assume make the OEM ones anyway),Fliptop wrote:Sorry, that's all I have, but they only extend very slightly beyond the rails. Re: Roof bars and box - Avant
Meant to ask, do the Audi ones have the T-tracks in them, so they fit Thule accessories?
