S4 stage 1 or stage 2 remap

Post by liffy99 » Fri Mar 07, 2014 11:01 pm

OK. Deciding on which remap to go for. Will probably be either from MRC or Unicorn (if stage 1 - cheaper, but no rolling road test). But stage 1 or 2, that is the question.
I've seen the graphs and understand the differences on paper, but what do they feel like from the driving seat ?
Looked at plenty of threads from people that have gone from stock to stage 1 or stock to stage 2, but not found anyone that has tried stage 1 then gone to stage 2. Is going the extra worth it without upgrading other aspects of the car ? I'm not likely to track it as it's my daily drive.

Subbed! Same thing going on in my mind.... Also is the s-tronic map worth it or required?

Ditto, I'm in the same boat, also thinking about the exhaust too and don't want a Milltek!

Didn't they do a test and the B8 S4, when mapped etc (Stage 2) is on a level with a standard B8 RS4?

I believe that was a revo stage one, putting out approximately 400 BHP.

The MRC stage 2 will.... Be another proposition.

Take nothing away from the rs4 though as straight line speed is not the whole story.

saw a you tubeclip (Chris Harris on cars) he had the Revo map done and I beleave his S4 made 415 HP but as you say MRC stage 2 is completely different speaking to MRC whilst I was down there he has seen very close to 500. my own S4 was definitely quicker of the line than my B8 RS4 but straight line speed isn't everything. S4 was still ajoy.

I went straight to MRC Stage 2 and it's staggeringly quick. Made 489bhp on the dyno but that's with a gearbox map as well.

How are the shifts with the map? Still smooth? Don't things blowing up worry you at that HP and torque?

Gear shifts are still just as smooth as standard. It's all been done by people who know there stuff and as long as you don't drive it flat out all the time I don't think it will cause issues.

Did they say if they were willing to flash it back to normal free of charge if needed for warranty work?

I didn't ask them mate but I'm sure they would as they seemed a very reasonable bunch. Not sure the majority of car technicians would realise the car was modded anyway as apart from the little MRC badge there is no obvious sign its been played with.

Actually... Be very careful if you ever take your car into Audi (service, ecu upgrades) they have systems that can flag your car as modified and will refuse any additional warranty work on those components if they fail.

Search for "Audi and TD1" there is a lot to info of the US website audizine. My car is still under warranty and that is what's putting me off at the moment, although granted the gains are very impressive, especially from MRC.

New gearbox, 5k+
New sports diff, 10k+

Sorry to bring a downer on this, but also important both sides of the story is balanced.

To be fair mate if your going to worry about what could go wrong modding is obviously not for you. I ran a stage 2 tune on a brand new Focus RS and any issues I had within the warranty period were dealt with by Ford. You just need to find yourself a mod friendly dealer.
