I know its a stupid question but is the sports diff for the Tiptronic only or I take it that it can be on the manual as well ...>

What's the difference between the sports diff and the FL version with the crown diff?

Not sure I understand the question properly but they are totally different things. The Sport diff does Torque between the rear wheels, the crown is an self locking diff to adjust power between the front and rear only. The sport diff is the same on the B8 and B8.5

Always spec one with the sport diff :)

The crown gear center differential replaces the previously used Torsen differential, which used a similar principal, but it acted in a completely different way, and was less adept at a rearward torque bias. The crown gear center differential makes the new Audi models which are equipped with the crown gear differential feel much more lively, and much more "rear wheel drive" than any Audi quattro model before, yet retain the same surefooted all weather stability at all times.

So I understand the Crown Diff is standard but you can then of course still add the Sport Diff as an extra?

Excuse my ignorance but do those of you who've the sports diff fitted, is it really that noticeable when driving day to day compared to the standard. .my dealer suggested that I wouldn't be able to feel the difference.
What are your findings please ?

Epic fun yesterday in a B8 RS4 on greasy wet muddy backroads, could really feel it working out of square second gear corners in these weather conditions - electronics left ON I hasten to add! Before I was skeptical, I thought you’d only feel the difference on a race track, but you can really feel it working at legal speeds on the public road. Just like a car with a solid rear axle wants to go straight on, this sends less power than a regular differential to the inside wheel and more power to the outside rear wheel to push you out of corners.

Really pleased I spec'd this option, but without the ability to take a S4 with sports diff on a back to back test drive I just hoped I'd made the right decision.
Damd..just cant wait for mid Jan to come around, the wait is eating me up.
