If you like wide arches.....

Post by S4 CKR » Tue Oct 22, 2013 7:47 pm

My car is coming up to 1 year old this November post "enhancements". I have always been a fan of arches, DTM cars and the B7 RS4. The arches here were inspired by the BMW 1M.

Apologies if the links don't work!

Looks good,
out of interest have you fitted wider wheels or spacers to get the wheel to fill the arches?

Nice! I've talked about my next car being a widebody B8 S4 saloon. I guess that's what you've done here, but without using the RS4 arches / bumpers etc. I also wondered if it might look better with the rounded B7 style arches as opposed to the boxy B8 style.
I'm loving it, looks like it was really well done too. For me I think I might have made the arches a tad smaller though (some angles they look big but other angles it looks just right).

Thanks for the comments.

Things could have gone wrong so easily..... the standard front is wide enough as it is, so some would say I have overdone it with the arches, but the outcome has exceeded my expectations considering the guys have to work within the constraints of the standard design swage and flow lines.

I wanted the car to maintain an OEM look, it has to withstand the daily grind and the arches have to be durable for years to come.

High quality workmanship is a must and has to reflect that of a £40k car (I know it's just an S4...)

The project took around 3 weeks in November. I believe it's a combination of metal sheet and fibre glass. EACH corner has a 50mm H&R spacer (gulp!). I have had no vibration issues, I don't track the car (so can't comment) but motorway storming feels a lot more stable, which is handy given the recent MRC stage 2 treatment : )

I take the point about wider wheels. I'm still looking for a set of aftermarket wheels that would maintain the OEM look, these would have to be custom.

Last but not least, I'm glad I approached the right team for this job, thanks to recommendation from a forum member. The company is called Xquisite, based in Surrey. I think it's fair to say my car is the most subtle of their numerous projects, but Kay and his team have been great. Professional, knowledgeable and approachable. They also have a good eye and knew I wasn't going for a "Pimp my ride" look (though this is subjective?) Most importantly, this is a bespoke job which is nice knowing the car will be unique.

Once again, thanks for the kind words.

As I said, its awesome...an I would defo consider an S4 now I've seen this as I've always thought the standard body let's it down....

Rough idea of cost?

Looks awesome. This is how Audi should have made the B8 RS4 look. Looks aggresive and subtle at the same time.
Current car: 2007 BMW 530d touring.
Previous car: 2005 S4 B7.

Yes! The B8 RS4 fails on a number of issues for me; box arches, no saloon option, no manual, not very tunable engine.

A widebody B8 could fix all those issues, just need uprated brakes and supension and a little MRC lovin'.

The only fail from that point of view for me is I'd miss that V8 grumble.

Rough idea of cost?
Fabricate custom front and rear arches
Fabricate arch extensions on rear bumper
Fabricate arch extensions on front bumper
Purchase and Fit supplied spacers
Modify inner arches
Fabricate inner arches
Prepare and paint front wings, front doors, rear doors, rear quarters, front bumper and rear bumper

Slightly less than the price of 2 sets of Capistro exhaust systems for the B8 S4 (incl VAT)
OR
Approx 3 sets of APR RSC exhaust systems for the B8 S4 (exluding VAT cost)

I have been told afterwards by other tuning / body shops this was a fair price.
