Drove the S4.

Silver Avant with RS4 alloys and DSG-thingy.

The Good.
Great build quality althought he center console controls look a little cheap.

The engine has power everywhere.

Looks good (although I prefer the rear of the S-Line cars).

Nice colours available (The Audi Red/Yellow and that smurf blue are some of my all time favourite colours.)

The autobox is very smooth and does not upshift on it's own in sport mode.

Massive amount of space.

Car feels faster then it is.

Reasonably good handling and fool-proof. Perfect for beginner drivers who want something sporty.

The Not So Good.

-The whole drive select thing is a gimmick. Just make ONE setting but make it good.

-The Sport Seats do not hold you that well. BMW sports seats are way better.

-Steering feels like a mid 90's force feedback video game wheel. There is not enough self centering during spirited driving. The whole variable steering thing is pants on the whole.

-Feels a bit stodgy to drive.

The Ugly.

-Engine sound is terrible. Sounds like a quiet, gas powered sewing machine. Listen to a BMW I6 (from the 130i e.g.) and then to the S4... huge difference.

-WAY too expensive when equipped as it should be. The one I drove was give or take M3 sedan money. In base spec, doesn't have any "S" goodies like sport seats or that trick diff.

Conclusion.

I can definitely see why some people would absolutely love this car, however a spirited drive over my favourite road left me totally cold. I can't see myself spending that much money on something that will not entertain me while driving. However if you already have something fun for the week-end and can afford the S4 as a daily driver, then it's a great choice for 90% of the people.
