Hi Guys
can you please advise what size winter tyres will go on my 20 inch rims. Summer tyres are 275x35x20 which come as standard.
I searched for winter in that size and cheapest I found are bloody £440 per tyre---- ridiculous price!!
Just wondered if 235x40x20 will fit and not rub arches? These I can get for around £250 per tyre?
Please let me know your thoughts!
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Winter tyres for RS6 C6
235 ain't recommended when they are supposed to be 275. Assuming you haven't got the monster 420 mm ceramics, your best option is to buy a set of 19s. Yes it's extra initial outlay but makes the tyres cheaper and you'll still have the second alloys to sell on when you come to sell the car. It also minimises the chances of damaging your original 20s changing tyres twice yearly, chipping wheel weights off each time etc.
As strange as it sounds, your supplying dealer is worth a shout for a set of wheels and tyres. My father was recently quoted £850 mark for a set of 16s and winter tyres for the family Sportback - not bad when one alloy can cost half that figure normally.

I use an extra Set of Audi 9J x 20 ET38 Rims (the standard fit rims) with Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D 265/35 ZR20 99V XL tyres ..
As Ian_C says if you have steel disks you can put 19inch rims on which will allow "cheaper" tyres, if you have ceramics you NEED to stay on 20 inch rims. Spare rims for winter use, ignoring outlay, make so much sense on the time / effort and potential damage when swapping the tyres each Autumn / Spring .... And when you have the winter set on you can send the summer set off to get refurbed
A full set of Rims and tyres cost me £3490.00 (inc Vat) last year from Audi .. However I ordered them Dec 1 and did not get them until late March so "missed" the winter LOL
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D 265/35 ZR20 99V XL are around £ 305 each this year .. so I already save you 140 quid a corner versus your 440 price

Hi Guys
I never meant 235, writing mistake
275:40:20 I meant
Alternatively as you say what would be the cost of 19 inch wheels with winter tyres on?
Again 265 can be fitted instead of 275mm?
Thanks for previous posts

Dunno .. Call Audi and ask what they recommend (I think they will offer the winter package they sold me ie Audi 9J x 20 ET38 Rims + Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D 265/35 ZR20 99V XL tyres at 3500 GBP) which is easy, ie they fit and have the TPS system installed and are "official" so no insurance worries etc
Or call one of the numerous alloy / tyre places and get a recommendation and see what works for you price wise / spec wise
Its a pain I know .. I also am dredging through a million sites looking for a rim / tyre combo for the Missus Smarty Brabus (she wont drive the Boxster if it will get dirty
).. Merc are useless .. so its google and telephone time for me too
