Lucky escape

Got a call from my pregnant wife this afternoon.
She was on her way back from some Christmas splurging when the London Underground simply stopped working. She was stuck at Tufnell Park as the buses weren't running either.
So off I set, her knight in shining Daytona Grey armour.
I was quite smug driving on the unsalted roads, lots of grip obviously in the RS6.
And then I had to drive down a hill.
(Highgate Hill, in case you know London.)
I quickly found out why they'd stopped the buses, as my own two tonne bus slid for about 100 metres down it, with me helpless behind the wheel.
Tried pumping gently at the brakes with no effect and I ended up at about 45 degrees before the car finally stopped. Thankfully, nothing was getting up the hill so there was no oncoming traffic.
Got home, parked the car.
And that's where it's staying.
Be careful out there.

As DK said or worst case slip it into reverse and short bursts.

It was all happening really slowly so I had plenty of time to think. It was the changing down that eventually stopped me. Thought the torque would win over the momentum quicker than it did though.

Quattro or ceramics or whatever mean nothing in this weather. Its all about winter tyres right now. Either that or invest in a 500 quid micra - its faster and outbrakes any RS in this snow ;)

Agree about winter tyres. Put them on the S3 recently and one of the main benefits is that the ABS rarely cuts in on the snow unlike with the OEM RE050As where it was kicking in all the time.

500 quid micra probably cheaper and better solution than winter tyres, as it's not just about you and your traction, but it's all the other "kn**heads" on the road, that don't have a nice car to care about!

If you can't beat em - join em!

I'll look out for you.
(No jokes about I'd do better looking out for slippery road conditions instead, please. :) )

Festive greetings to you all too.
