DRL failed yesterday, booked in next week .. 3 Recalls !

Post by gdavison » Fri Dec 04, 2009 7:36 am

As title says, a Daylight Running Light failure pinged up on the dash last night driving home, so called Reading Audi to get them looked at.. Service receptionist said there was 3 Factory recalls to be done as well .. I'll get details of them and post them for folk

Same here.
They told me the first time I can bring the car in, they'll have to change the "lights system".
They say it'll take a day as they have to remove the front bumper too.

Seawise, do you have any more info on that? Do they replace the actual headlight units?

Thanks in advance

I had the same issue a couple months back. It took Audi Slough 5 visits to figure out that they can't fix the issue and just replace the headlights completely. Also, others are correct in saying that the front bumper will be taken off.

So two points to save you some time (I've wasted plenty of it with my dealer dealing with this):

- Make sure they adjust the headlights correctly after replacing them... I had to pay a separate visit back to stop blinding everyone around me.

- Make sure the bumper is aligned well before you leave the dealer. In my case the bumper is off a bit, but I'd rather shoot myself than let them touch my car again.

Christ, seems like this is a real issue as i have had the exact same experience with mine, got it rebooked in at Southampton tomorrow as the DRL's are still failing and i keep getting flashed by on coming trafic at night since they 'fixed' it.

rost12, Slough Audi are the biggest cowboys on the dealership network.
they will do everything BUT fix your car.
I suggest Aylesbury Audi for your pride and joy, who are a short drive away but at least it gets done proper.

Popped into Essex Audi today to ask about this, am told it's "replacement of headlamp seals and grommets"

Be interested to hear others experiences before car goes in next week.

Does anyone know if this effects all cars?

I assume that this will be undertaken when you next visit rather than being an urgent recall.

They told me they'd do it the first time I need to bring the car in.
They also told me to find a reason to

I had both headlights replaced under warranty after the DRL warning flashed up for the near side only
Bedford Audi very good-courtesy car -kept in touch -sounds like I am lucky compared to some of the comments about the dealers

These cars seem purpose built for this weather, saw two Brabus Mercs at a clayshoot recently, spoke to one of them..............very interesting on slippery back roads !
Just one issue, the door skins are very soft, dents very easily, note gone to Audi through dealer.........awaiting response

Reading Audi just called to cancel the booking as "they have a lot of staff call in ill"

so the work will have to wait until another time when I can get booked in

wouldn't bother with recall - they did mine and it still pings up 'drl failure' every now and then - switch off and restart and all is well. bit poor for a 70k car, but there u go, thats technology for u.

I've booked mine in at Camberley Audi after Christmas, to get an oil change and the following three factory updates done:

24Q6 (ECU software update)
91E6 (MMI software update)
94E1 (Xenon headlamps)

I noticed today what looked like a bit of condensation inside both headlamp units, possibly has something to do with the 'seals and grommets'...
