I just bought an rs6 v10 and have a few questions.

Post by Holmax » Sat Oct 31, 2009 6:53 pm

Hi guys, firstly I'll introduce myself.
I've come over to the dark side, mercedes!
I have been running e63 amg estates for the past few years.
Trying to beat depreciation I stupidly part exed my 63 for an e320 cdi sport a year ago and even though I had the brabus chip fitted (272 bhp) it just felt as though it didn't have an engine after my 63 & I hate that tractor soundtrack.
I spoke to my dealer a couple of weeks back about ordering a new shape 63 estate (I need an estate due to me being in a wheelchair) and was told that they were not expected to come out until around a year from now.
I just can't wait that long with this diesel power so I have just bought an ex demo rs6 v10.
Hopefully I should be getting it next week after I get the hand controls fitted, but I have a few questions in the mean time that I hope you can help me with.

1: I'm having the ipod dock fitted, can you control it from the steering wheel or sat nav at all?

2:Will the sat nav play dvd's? It's a feature I'll really miss if it can't, great for when the wife was shopping for what seems to be hours!

3: What type of oil/grade oil does it use for top ups?

4: I'm thinking of maybe getting it remapped at some point. The nearest people to me who do them are Autotechnica or Rikki Concepts in Hull. Has anyone used them, are they any good?

5: I'm also thinking of getting a millteck exhaust. I crave that lamborghini sound that the v10 engine has. Does the millteck give that sound. After my e63 with eisenmann pipes, I fancy a howl rather than a grumble. And how much are they?

6: I used to take my 63's to york raceway to do the standing quarter. Has anyone had their rs6 at a drag strip. I used to get at best 13 seconds dead (never did manage to get into the twelves) How does the rs6 stack up?

7:I've not even seen an rs6 in the flesh, I have bought this over the phone from Bridgend Audi in Whales. My local dealers have been terrible. I can't have a proper test drive due to me needing hand controls, but a ride in one would have been nice. I was ready to actually order a brand new one subject to me having a ride in one, but my three nearest dealers just don't even bother to call me back. I don't dress like a chav, I don't swear, I am polite, what is it with these people, why do they think they are doing you a favour by selling you a car? I've made a complaint to Audi uk about this and look forward to their reply, but that's another story for another day. So anyway, back to the question. How does it stack up against the 63? Does it feel faster/ slower, is the ride softer/harder etc etc?
I know I could answer all these questions myself as soon as I get it, but as my wife says, I'm an impatient sod!

Cheers Guys, I'll post some pictures when I get it.

P.s
It the typing box always this bad, I only see the first few lines I have typed, after that I am just typing blind.

Hi Holmax and welcome from the Dark side...

I'm pretty sure you're gonna love this car!!! I'll try answer some of your questions, pretty sure others will chip in also.

1) Yes, the iPod is pretty much fully functional via the MMI and this is controlled via steering wheel and/or the centre consul.

2) Pretty sure the DVD in boot is just set up the Sat Nav and interchanger in glove comp plays CD's however probably can be sorted.

3) There's a bottle in the boot, I'll check and get back to you if not beaten to it.

4) Can't help on those firms I used AmD Essex... many good things on here about tuning MRC / Unit 20 / MTM to name a few.

5) I'm having a Milltek fitted next week but can tell you this engine howls in std trim when you give it some beans. I’m lead to believe the Milltek gives the car more of a grumble at lower rpm.

6) http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrou ... i_rs6.html

Evo had it running a 12.7 in std trim.

7) Can't compare myself but sure someone on here will give you the low down.

Hope that goes some way to helping with some of your questions, yep the text box is a pain in the rear with long posts.

Hi Holmax
What is the spec of your car?
You buying a RS6 conjures up a whole new meaning to "Motability allowance"
Hope you are not having the "topbox" conversion!

Only joking - hope you love the car
Why not take the wife to Germany for a break and have a custom chip from MTM

Ha ha, not quite the regular mobility is it!
This is the link to the car: http://usedcars.audi.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=600773630 The milage stated on the net is wrong, it's actually done only 1800 miles.
The good thing about being disabled is that I get the vat off a new car as well (this qualifys for zero vat with it being a demonstrator). I managed to knock them down two grand off the price on the website, and with the vat off I got it for around £55000. I got £27500 for my merc. We buy any car were only offering £22000, so I think I've ended up with a pretty good deal. I ideally wanted the sepang blue, but I guess beggars can't be choosers!

Kcsun, My wifes sister actually lives in bavaria, so it's an idea for the future. Can't really do it at the moment though, we have a six month old son, and although he can't talk yet, I can already sense the "are we there yet" vibe coming from him after only half an hour in the car :)

Ipod control was standard on the C6 RS^ .. Control is via a combination of the wheel and centre console buttons

Yes .. I have Steve McQueen Le Mans in mine at the moment

Thanks for the reply gdavison.
Will dvd's only play from the changer in the boot or does the glovebox changer play dvd's?
Also, will my ipod classic play video to the screen, or just music?

there is not a changer in the boot .. the 6 pack CD player, DVD player, SD card reader, iPod interface etc are all one unit in the glove compartment

No to Video being played from the iPod .. "just" music

Hi Holmax,

Just happened to notice that you are from East Yorkshire and you mentioned us - AutoTechnica - in your first post!

We are Revo Technik authorised dealers and Milltek Sport dealers, I am currently at home so don't have any specific information but if you would like to call us on 01482 353369 and ask for Andy I can give you more information or reply to this post and I will post the information on here.

I am an Audi Master Technician, having worked for an Audi centre for 11 years then leaving to work for Volkswagen Group UK technical support for two years before setting up AutoTechnica in July this year, I have done the Audi technical launch training for the V10 RS6 so should be able to answer any questions you have regarding the car you are getting!

Hope to speak soon

Seems you have the 3rd gen MMI G sir (3D Nav & 40Gig drive?) lucky man... although my car is a '09 I have 2nd Gen MMI, it was manufactured around the turn of the year when Audi started putting the 3rd Gen MMI in the Saloon and also new Avants but I missed out so it was a trade off against the rest of the spec I wanted.

Holmax you may want to check with the dealer but sure it won't change your choice of car now. The 3rd Gen MMI can't be retro fitted by Audi and the only quote I got from a third party was crazy, bout £4k I seem to remember!!

Hello there :)

I'm new to the RS6 Avant (one week) but I'm already in love!

I have the last Gen MMI (the car has been manufactured in week 40), I can easily use the iPod (nano in my case) from the steering wheel. However I have not managed to get the shuffle feature to work.
The songs will play in whatever sequence they've been sync'd through your PC/Mac: alphabetical, top rated, ... But no shuffle.

If anyone knows how to get the shuffle to work I'd appreciate the help.

Enjoy the missile

go into the Media section by pressing the Media button, press Control Button (bottom right of the 4 surrounding the centre spinning knob), rotate the spinning knob to "mix" and press down to select

Get used to doing it as the MMI does not remember this setting after the ignition has been off for some time

Thanks for the info guys.
Andy, I actually called at your place down calvert lane on saturday after getting my amg wheels changed at endyke in anticipation of my new toy arriving.
Unfortunately you were closed (it was about 4.00pm). Maybe a good job, I was seriously getting depressed at hull city losing again!
Once I get the car I'll pop in and have a chat about the exhaust etc.

It works :D

It actually works different on mine, maybe they changed something in the "2010" version (the end of the year production is already called 2010), but I managed to find it.
The trick is that the music must not be running (at least on mine).

Thanks again!
