Which oil is best?

Post by brahma » Tue Jul 21, 2009 8:22 am

Had to top up oil urgently on a trip to Croydon from Dorset. RS6 had done less than 2000 miles from new. Castrol longlife oil from dealer cost £16 :boohoo: . I am wondering how frequently I would need a top up, and whether I would get the oil cheaper elsewhere.
What oil would the experts recommend?
Best wishes

You will find that nearly all new RS's will need a top up after 2-3k miles. Then car is perfect and will not need any topping up between standard service intervals

Interesting, I got a litre of Mobile 1 in the little holster in the boot from new. I wonder what they put in at the factory? Fuchs maybe?

When I had my RS4 I recall that some folks (like me) were given a litre of Castrol Edge and other received Mobil 1. That was from a different dealer, so probably dependant on what oil supplier the individual dealers/dealer networks have. Clearly Castrol Edge is not exclusively used or mandated by Audi UK.

I bought Castrol Edge from Opie Oils in the past. Haven't had the need to buy any stuff for the RS6 yet, but I will use them again as the service and price is very good.
