Remap from Superchips done to try out this week. Figures from the rolling road are 649bhp (from 570) Torque 778 Nm @ 4020 (from 676 @ 4860) - up 119 torques at 3000!

An amazing difference - the car just comes alive. On yesterday's 400mile round trip to Liverpool, she still averaged 20.8mpg, which is really no different - the reason being, no change to the map until 2,400rpm (90mph) in top gear

One thing I have noticed. In manual flappy paddle mode, the car wont change up a gear until you back off slightly, which means the g-box must have a power delivery failsafe. I would guess this runs off boost pressure.

They did actually tweak the map down, it was too violent and almost undrivable at 700bhp

I think Superchips will be offering it for about £700, so a real bargain

No doubt a significant increase, can't help feeling however that reading some of these posts related to power upgrades, the RS6 in original form is underwhelming. You get used to the power and...that's it. Bored very quickly.
The car would be a good buy for £40 - £45 k.....no more.

Jon - do they remap the existing chip or solder a new one in?

You're entitled to your view but its rubbish. I've had my C5 for 6 years & she is a beauty. I am enjoying her on the french roads.

I've driven the C6 for about 300 miles & I lover her power delivery, accurate steering, comfortable ride & sure footed grip. I get more buzz from getting into & driving the C6 than my 4 year old 996 manual 450 bhp turbo which I've only done 12,500 miles from new.

I test drove an E63, M5, Range Rover Supersport & Cayenne Turbo & not one of them is a patch on the C6. The E63 came close.

At list price the RS6 is an expensive car, but if you can pick up a new one in the low £ 60ks, I think you're getting value.

I would agree with you there. and with the remap, its a really beauty - a really awesome car (and I have owned rather a lot of fast audis.

Ken, its a remap of the existing unit, no soldering or dismantling required. In fact, each side is basically the same ECU that is fitted in a VW Golf!

An objective and intelligent response, especially the first line. I was always referring to the C6.

How on earth you can state that you prefer to drive the C6 against a 996 Turbo S beggars belief.

Again, I owned C5 in 02 and found it an excellent car. Went from that to a 996 Turbo, you can't compare them. Why and how could you ?. Totally different.

I drove the C6 and was massively underwhelmed. Hence I had my £5k deposit returned.

You sum it up quite nicely ... 'each to their own'.

The 996 is a beautiful car, wonderfully engineered and with a manual gearbox is great fun fun to drive along country lanes. A 996 turbo wants to be driven. A Porsche also has a kind of 'look at me' image'.

However, with the C6 you get a very understated image. A car that is happy to just chug away or be driven hard & can handle both country lanes and motorways & what a carrying capacity. Yes there is a place for the 996 in my garage but most of the time I'd chose the C6.

hi everyone, i have not posted here before. i recently acquired a lightly used RS 6 (c6) and i'm absolutely delighted with the car. perhaps if it was my only car i might yearn for a little more 'involvement', but for those owners who have several other 'entertaining' cars tucked away in the garage an RS 6 i feel is the ultimate everyday motorcar. it's very fast (to that no one disputes), very refined , rides well considering it's abilities, is beautifully built, has a good range and not too juicy on a long run (20ish if one keeps the speed down in two digits), space for three children and the dog, what more can u reasonably ask for ? even the dealer service was first class. yes it doesn't involve you like an M5 , but that car i tried and couldn't believe how poor the gearbox was in daily use and how little torque the engine had low down the rev range. and when i get bored with 580ps i'll consider the option of a remap. i really find it difficult to accept that some people on this forum loudly proclaim that this car is dull. blimey, goodness knows what these chaps usually drive, an F40 perchance ?

The C6 RS6 is an all round great car !

Porsche 996 Turbos apparently, like you say a C6 RS6 is so boring.

Yep, I'll third that description. It's such a comfortable place to be, whether on a trundle to the shops or a thrash around the country roads.

M5 and M6 have an awful SMG box which for round town driving is just a night mare, sluggish changes even in the fastest mode. It's only when you drive the car in M mode like an idiot that you can appreciate what a beast it is.

And if anyone (no names mentioned) is disputing that the C6 is slow, take a look at the link below.

Update .... I've now covered about 500 miles in my C6.

I can only say that the car is highly refined; massively powerful & I sense the grin on my face and the excitement I feel in driving a fantastic all round motor car. Yes, it is a little more detached than say a 5.0 TVR but its a wonderful car to own.
