RS6 long term....

Post by tartan_rob » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:50 pm

So for those of you that have had the beast for a few months, how are you finding her long term?

What are the options you would recommend for a new owner..? and what kind of fuel consumption are you getting?

I am quite sure you could have got the consumption lower... :D

How was it over the 90mile trip? I test drove one and wasn;t enammered by the power but now seriousely thinking of one + an immediate 700bhp upgrade.

It wasn't quicker off the mark than my 6+, but a think faster past about 80ish. The power delivery whilst being fairly linear, didn't seem to come in properly until around 3000rpm which surprised me. See my comments under courtesy car below for what they are worth......Ken gives an interesting write up too further down the page.

I think they look a bit plain as well, at least in black. I know that's part of the attraction but I'd like to see one in Sprint Blue or red.

I guess I will be won over when mines worn out.......700bhp sounds amazing....Good luck.

I've had mine for a month now, and have done about 5,000 miles so have got used to the car.

MPG average, as I am doing a lot of motorway work is 17mpg, but can achieve 20.5mpg if I am careful. This should creep up as she wears in.

This is a big, and more importantly, a heavy car, therefore (especially after my R8) it's turn-in is pretty dull, which is not helped by an over-heavy steering wheel above 30mph. Power delivery is impressive, and silky smooth, but to drive with 'spirit' you need to be in flappy paddle mode, otherwise, like all auto's it has a mind of its own and you feel disconnected from the drive train.

I have had her in four-wheel drifts on the welsh mountain roads, and she is quite neutrally balanced and well behaved.

You can't be a hooligan in it as you can in an RS4, but all the same, its a very impressive understated 'uber wagen'

I am the guinea pig for Superchips next week, who are doing a remap, so I will report this back - I assume it will be considerably cheaper when they put it on resale than others quoted at €3,000 ish.

I have noticed in auto the gearbox stcks in 3rd gear around town at 30 . going to wheel flippers and changing up at about 32 mph gets into 4th gear. also 4th into 5th at 40 manually helps. Just doing this has increased my average from 20.5 to 23.5 mpg. Every little helps but the gearbox mapping does not.
