New to RS6

Post by RS6IBIS » Mon Feb 16, 2009 5:48 pm

Just traded in a 2006 BMW m5 for an RS6. Really feel I have come into the 21st century - abolutely love it after 500 miles.

Well done - I pick mine up on Wednesday, so will be joining you. I have had an R8, and 2 RS4's, so inthe 'fold' so to speak!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts Jonp on how the RS6 compares to the RS4, it is a thought in the back of my head of trading up for an RS6 in a few years time when the kids are older but I still need an uber wagon in my life.

Congrats to RS6IBIS & jonp ... I pick mine up after March 1 2009. RS6's are machines to die for !

P_G, now that I am moving into my 5th Audi S or RS, I would comment as follows :

The RS4 is a superb hands on driving machine with a gorgeously smooth V8 and beautiful manual gear box. A real driver's car, with great acceleration and speed. However, I think it lacks the mid range punch which is so amazing in the RS6, & is also a little small for my needs. Even with 2 passengers, the RS6's mid range acceleration is awesome. The RS6's automatic gearbox does give a slight element of being detached from the driving compared to a manual gearbox. In an ideal world ... you need an RS4 & an RS6.

Thats a pretty fair assessment I would say. I think as you get older, the RS6 has more appeal for everyday driving. The RS4 is a hooligans machine, and certainly more 'chuckable' weighing 400kg less.

Never the less, both cars are awesome. I thought I would never own an automatic car, but in flappy paddle mode, you at least feel more attached.

Both are much better cars than the R8, no question

Whilst I appreciate the physical beauty of the R8, its never created a desire within me.

Why do you think both cars are better than the R8 ?

BTW .. considerable weight saving can be made by investing in new wheels which adds to performance and handling. :beerchug:

I have just sold my R8 - which unfortunately had so many problems, it spent 1/4 of its life in the dealership. Add to that the impracticality of the vehicle, the harsh ride, both RS models are significantly better in all aspects, probably other than pure turn-in. It is filled with TT bits, and at £90k, makes all RS's appear a bargain!

I couldn't say the rs6 was a bargain - but having had a cayenne turbo and more recently an m5 - nothing else in that price bracket seems to come close for such a split personality of comfort and sheer madness when in the mood.

I have a 997 turbo in the garage and for the next few weeks at least I am content with my current cars.

Seems like a good site here.

No - that car inspired me for white - but went for the safe black leather option - otherwise exact same spec. Looks great clean - but lasts a day like that.

Any idea why your R8 was such a nightmare ? Was it the mileage?

I have always fancied an R8 and always assumed it was a premium product.

Nearly two weeks and 1200 miles down the line and 911 still in the garage.

Most complete car I have ever owned - thought it was understated but attracts more attention then I would have imagined. 17/18 mpg is achievable while still having fun - build and feel is way ahead of BMW - just love it!

Andy

It was quite an early car, but all of the problems were different, not recurring. It had nothing to do with the mileage in my view, just lack of testing
