Glitch in the matrix - had to reset MMI

Post by ChrisB » Sat Nov 08, 2008 5:23 pm

Odd MMI glitch last night - I think a controller on one of the CAN buses must have gone a bit haywire.

I was just filling up (a common event in an RS 6!) and left the phone in the car. When I got back in, it was just ringing as I turned the ignition on, and BT kicking in seemed to upset it, and the phone refused to connect.

I tried rebooting the phone (nokia 6500c) and finding it from the phone screen in MMI. It found it, but refused to connect again. Then MMI hiccuped.

The sport suspension plus screen would "seek" the dial to the current mode (it was on dynamic) but all the options were greyed out, the tyre pressure monitor showed the temps and pressures at the time, but didn't update as the car was driven, the steering wheel controls stopped working completely, the HVAC controls didn't display in the MMI screen, and the parking advanced would switch on with working beepers, but no MMI camera or visual display.

The other thing that I can't be sure about, is I swear servotronic stopped working and remained at low-speed boost, as the steering felt light even at speed.

Anyway, once I'd googled the three-key reset sequence (it's control wheel, top-right softkey and setup) and done that, everything came back as it should.

If any other C6ers get the same thing, it might help to know an MMI reset should cure it.

I am borrowing one of Audi UK's S8's at the moment, and I had a similar glitch, where the car reset to KM, instead of miles, and many of the settings just went back to a default. It's amazing how much time is spent resetting everything the way you want it
