TPMS Error Code 01521 after 10mins of driving

Hi All,

I've got a TPMS issue that hopefully some of you guys can maybe help me with.

The TPMS light came on & the error code pointed to the front left, so i got the sensor replaced. The issue seemed to have been fixed with all tyre pressures being displayed on the MMI screen, but 15mins of driving, the TPMS light came back on, but this time, it was a different error code, it didn't point to any sensor, but threw up code 01521 and just stated Tyre Pressure Sensor. Thought the new sensor might have been dodgy, so replaced the front left again with a new sensor, but still this error cide comes up.

When I start the car, no error & all the tyre pressures are showing, but everytime after 10-15mins of driving, the TPMS light comes on & the pressures do not display any more.

Has anyone else faced the same issue & if yes, what was the cause?

Some things i'm thinking it could be:

1. TMPS Control Module
2. ECU error

It seems to be a fault that only occurs after a period of driving, which i'm thinking may have something to do with the control aspect, as the sensors and the system all seem to work fine when you start the car & go for a short drive.

Cheers
Roy

I regularly but at random intervals get two errors:
01467 - Front Left Tire Pressure Sensor (G222)
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent - MIL ON
and
01521 - Sensor for Tire Pressure
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent - MIL ON

The FL sensor is the only one which I have yet to replace so I'm not surprised.

Silly question, have you selected "Reset" in the TPMS menu on the MMi after you replaced the sensor?

Hi Ian,

I dont have a "reset" option to select. When i go into the TPMS in MMI, i have 3 options,

- display tyre pressures
- store tyre pressures
- Initialise after wheel change

I've tried to Initialise several time, but after each try, the error comes back, as per my initial post. I've also tried to save the new tyre pressures, but again, that doesn't seem to help. I've also ahd my local Audi workshop have a look, but they haven't managed to track down the fault either & they have been using the proper VCDS software.

When you mention to select "reset" do you mean initialise or are you taking about another "reset" option somewhere?

Thanks
Roy

Initialise is the reset option, it causes the TPMS to recognise the sensors (and register new ones) and their locations on the car. Store pressures logs base pressures for each sensor - when (if) a sensor pressure has dropped by a certain percentage (10%? Maybe, I don't know the figure) the TPM unit will throw a warning.
I've done both but neither make a difference to the occurance of the fault. Often I receive a dash warning something like 'TPMS malfunction' and no pressures are displayed. Taking the initialise option will clear it for a while - if I'm lucky. In normal operation sometimes I can see all 4 tyre pressures, other times three are shown with the old sensor displaying nothing.

Hi Jim,

Interesting, very similar issue - as soon as i click the initialise, all tyre pressures & temps come back & its fine for 10-15mins of driving, then the error occurs again. This happens everytime, so the sensors are working, but i'm just not sure where the fault lies.

Can anyone confirm the MMI control module part number for the 2010 car?

I can see from ebay a normal A6 C6 part number is 4E0035729, but not sure if the RS6 has the name part number or not?

Thanks

Maybe check this one... http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/01521

About the MMI unit if you give me a VIN I can tell you which one you have on your car.

Did you manage to solve this tpms issue?

I have a similar one with mine - all was fine then one day the tpms warning came up and since then none of the sensors are seen by the car. I have tried resetting it but it can not learn them. VCDS shows zero on all four sensors.

I have scanned the sensors with a diagnostic tool that reads at each wheel and all four sensors read fine - pressure, temp and coding.

Getting annoying now as it beeps every time I drive the car and I am struggling to find the cause of the issue.

Hello,

Unfortunately, I've not been able to fix my issue yet. My TPMS seems to be fine when i start the car but after driving (it seems like ~15mins is the magical number), the TPMS light comes on & all the tyre pressure data etc disapears. Like you, i'm struggling to get to the root cause. Its been in to the garage a couple of.times, but still no solution & i use my car daily, so sending it in again & again gets frustrating as I then have to live without it for weeks, which is why i've not continued sending the car in.

Is your error present all the time now? Ie, even from starting the car or just comes on randomly?

Heya,

Yes on ours you turn the ignition on, start the car and TPMS immediately shouts at us saying it has a fault. Still no readings from it whatsoever although all the sensors work fine. I own my own garage and am banging my head against the wall with this and an EVAP fault that the car had when we bought it just over a year ago.

What have the places tried that you took it to? I need to solve these faults before they drive me crazy.

The alternator belt just snapped while my wife was driving on the M25 so I'm about to fit a new one - wish me luck! :audibash:

Since the sensors work initially, has anyone ruled out a fault in the TPMS receiving antennas/transceivers? On this platform (C6 RS6), are the receivers integrated into the wheel well liners, or is there a central aerial system that might be failing after sustained use?

From the diagrams, the receivers are in the arches but send their info to a central processing unit behind the dash with the rear sensors using an antenna to do so, which is in the right rear boot area (by the jack/locking wheel nut etc).
