Hi all,

After 10 years of trouble free ownership, my Plus has started playing up - inevitable I guess.

Firstly, after the LH front inner wheel guard cracked, I the car developed a 'Suspension System Fault' warning after driving in snow in the Pyrenees. The Sports Suspension Plus is greyed out in the MMI and you cannot alter the suspension settings. My local dealer says it needs new front dampers, but after waiting nearly a year for availability, Ive been unable to get hold of a left hand front damper. Does anyone know if these can be rebuilt? Also, do we think it's definitely the strut, as it seems to work fine and rides normally with no noise or play? Could it be a DRC issue?

At the same time, the MMI has developed a mind of its own and keeps turning itself off and on, but the screen just stays on the RS6 welcome screen, plays the radio for a few minutes and then restarts, but it does not respond to any off the buttons and does not turn off with the on/off button.

Any thoughts on either of these issues??

It is possible to actually check the motor and position sensor in the damper without removing it in order to try to identify where your fault is.

The dealer's diagnosis might be accurate, as damaged or worn dampers can trigger suspension faults, especially in systems like the Sports Suspension Plus or DRC (Dynamic Ride Control). However, the fact that the car rides normally suggests it may not be the damper itself but potentially a sensor or hydraulic component. Besides, the DRC system relies on hydraulic lines and valves to balance the suspension. If there is air in the system, a leak, or a fault with the pressure valve, it could cause a suspension fault without visible symptoms in ride quality.
