Fuel Filter Feed Pipe

Post by ATinOf » Sat Oct 19, 2024 2:34 pm

Service time has come round again and this time had to include the fuel filter; having done this once I know 2 of the fittings have the awkward clips 180 degree apart rather than the more usual single circular push clip style so wasn't looking forward to it, they were a git to get off last time around. I wasn't wrong; more of a git this time round, so much so when it did come off it came off with a jerk and I kinked the damn feed pipe

I also noticed that where it kinked it was weakened from rubbing against a hard surface, so much so the hard outer casing was not there and what was left, although it wasn't leaking, I could press with my finger! So definitely not worth trying to recover the kink with pliers it needed changing anyway. Check your pipes at your next service guys.

But that was not the end of the saga, the other end was even more not playing ball, the damn filter end snapped in the end of the fitting, it did not want to let go. It doesn't help you cant easily get your fingers ether side of the clip and pull it off at the same time, no space!

So I was concerned id make matters worse getting it out I ordered a fleabay secial so I had a spare to hand in case. only fleabay specials have an E suffix not the required G suffix (4F0201218E) but I bought one anyway to see if it fit. Turns out the pipe is a smaller diameter. So top tip dont bother.

Fortunately the 12 gauge screw attempt worked

After 220k km I thought it might be a good idea to change the fuel filter. Thanks to the forum, I knew that due to the limited space (is there any part in this car, that provides plenty of space :? ) the removal of the fuel pipes from the filter might be challenging. For those of you who intend to this this, I found this video incredibly useful: https://www.youtube.com/live/IkrAIWoTIeI
I "flooded" the 180° clip connector with WD 40 to loosen the inner ring before removal. The removal itself in my case was not that challenging.

By the way, I opened the fuel filter housing and must say that to my impression it would have last another 200k km .......
