Highmilers

Post by mavada » Thu Jan 26, 2023 8:14 pm

Hi,

After owning a C5 RS6 for 10 or so years, I'm considering a C6 at the moment.
I've seen some examples with high mileage, say 215.000 km.
What are the things to watch/look out for with this mileage?
What is the advantages of the face-lift version?
Still on original turbos/gearbox is a no go?

With the kindest regards,

Mark

Mine has around 120k miles now.. I believe the main issues were the oil seal and coolant pipes which were done before I bought it.

Since then I've had an issue with DRC (fitting PSS9's next week), starter motor (big job) and I recently fitted new discs and pads (almost £2k). I think the turbos/gearbox are generally ok on these cars from what I've heard (unlike the C5).

Hi Imola_Sid,

Thanks for your reply.
The one I'm currently interested in has already KW V3 and an akrapovic exhaust.
For maintenance until now it has had an gearbox oil (11 liter) and filter done at 150.000 km.
The intake manifold has been taken off and back in at the same mileage, along with cleaning the intake valves and new engine oil 5w30 helix ultra professional and oil filter.
It's for sale with the 20 inch original wheels, but it had I think 21 inch C7 wheels.
I will see if I can find pictures of it....
Is it worrying it has an removable towbar? Gearbox wise?

Previous on C7 wheels, I think 21 inch.

Think it has the wear and tear on the driver's side seat side leather bolster from getting in and out...
Still in doubt to let the C5 go for the C6, because the C5 has only done 107.000 km compared to the 215.000 for the C6.

As much as I absolutely love the C6, I've always preferred the older generation cars and I still really miss the C5. I had terrible luck with my C5 (gearbox, turbos and intercoolers all went) but I loved the car. Mine was modified but if i bought another it would probably be mugello and oem apart from the ride height. You'll love the C6 but there is something about the C5, especially how well it's aged in the looks department 😍

The car you're looking at looks nice, especially with the drop (oem wheels are much better imo) but I couldn't really tell you much about the gearbox/towbar concern sorry.

Have you had a test drive of a C6 yet and is this one still standard?

I ask because you have a tuned C5 just like I did, and I found that a standard C6 "felt" slower than my tuned C5 even though it was actually faster, all because the "kick in the back" of a tuned C5 "felt" stronger than the gentle push that the standard C6 gives you.

I knew I was planning to map my C6 (about 3 days after buying it) so I wasn't worried that it felt slower (even though it was faster) than my C5.

285/30-21 is well known with a 10.5" wide rim.

Ok thanks a lot.
I presume replacing turbos on the c6 means engine out, but I same as c5?
Whats the average lifespan of c6 turbos?

Hi mavada,

I've had my C6 coming up to 4yrs now, I bought it at just over 120k mi. Turbos and gbox are solid if you look after the car. Main issues I've had are starter motor (been a thread already on this here) & fuel pump (my fault in fairness). DRC is a known issue but depends on usage/bit of luck. Dashboard & elecs can be jumpy but I think that's just an Audi thing in general. Other than that it's incredible, as per the performance question I feel as though this car's potential is only unlocked if it's tuned and ideally to stage 2 with emphasis on the low end, I drove a few prior to getting this one and even some of the tuned ones just felt underwhelming so I'd definitely recommend driving the one you're looking at to see if it ticks the thrill box! Good luck

Thanks for the input guys.
Ive heard the cooling lines, the famous ones in the drivers side footwell which will rot eventually, are replaceable in situ?
