Side Light Not Working (Not Bulb)

Post by cammmy » Sat Nov 26, 2022 3:55 pm

Hi all, car started complaining about the R/H light not working (The inner H7 bulb, not the xenon). Just pulled the bumper to find the bulb is fine, replaced it anyway, cleared all codes and it's still coming up the same. Interestingly, both aren't working but it's only complaining about the right. I'm guessing that if one doesn't work, it switches both off, like the DRL?

Any ideas where to look? I've checked the fuses but don't know where the relays are. All other functions of the headlights work. No visible damage to the wiring in the headlight of the connector. I have continuity with the bulb plugged in but no 12v. I'm guessing the car cuts power if it senses a problem, so not necessarily a sign of bad wiring?

Any help appreciated.

The inners are the front fog lights, are there any wiring diagrams/fuse locations for those available to you (this laptop doesn't have elsawin on it so I can't find it myself)?

EDIT - Wow, just found that there's an Elsawin online - this is the wiring diagram (No 112/5 about 1/2 way down the page, RH Fog is Labelled L23), not much there, just a single wire from the control unit to the headlight unit and then internal wiring, no fuses/relays anywhere there.

Okay thanks for that, are they also used as the side lights? I could be confused but there are only 3 bulbs, the main beam, those ones and the indicator. The DRL has been dead on that side since I got the car but that has its own message. The R/H light one is new. The main/high beams work fine and I believe the message for that is main beam rather than light.

The DRL are the only lights used as the "sidelight" so the three bulbs within the headlight are -

The Main/dipped bulb is a single bulb with only one filament instead (not a combined bulb). The "dip" function is just mechanical "cut-off" shield (a lump of plastic/metal) within the headlight which blocks some of the light from the single bulb and then when you select "main" the shield drops so you get full light output.

Ah crap, so the DRL are the side lights? They are an MOT requirement? Guess I'm sending the headlight off then. Any recommendations for repair service?

I got a hold of Trups at EM tuning. He's going to give me some options.
