Lowering springs/spacers

Post by Imola_Sid » Sun Sep 18, 2022 10:04 pm

Hi everyone,

A quick request for photos of your lowered RS6's (avants) with spacers along with details of the setup.

I'm looking to give the C6 a subtle drop (along with spacers) and want to retain the DRC system/comfort.

What options are there and is there a go to/tried and tested setup?

Thanks

IMO, avoid the spacers if lowering. I had some on there and removed them as the tyre would rub the screws holding the arch liners in and that was at factory height. I think I had 5mm front and maybe 8 on the rear.

Mine with KW springs and camber bushes in the front. That's about as high as the KW springs go. Still rides fine though. Went to the continent with 4 people and gear. No signs of rubbing or bottoming out.

Mine with H&R springs and 10mm H&R spacers all round. Ideal stance in my opinion. Would maybe have it a few mm higher at the back is it was adjustable.ImageImage

Thanks Doug - that looks really good with the added bonus of not being too expensive either. It's probably the route i'll take to make it sit a little better.

Dunc - thanks mate. It's been almost a decade since I had the C5 I think. Time really does fly! Is Ben (username was Shop I think) still about on here? Such a nice helpful guy. I got so busy with stuff that I rarely checked the forums I used spend a lot of time on.

I've had a fair few cars since the C5, including a Range Rover Classic LSE, E46 M3 Coupe, E36 M3 Convertible, B7 RS4, CLS55 AMG, E90 M3 Saloon, ML63 AMG, Clio 197 F1 and an S Type R. Pretty much moved on to something new every year since the RS6 and sometimes had 2 cars at once (like the B7 and the E36 and most recently the S Type R and the F1). A growing family and lack of space pushed me to go for the C6 RS6. It had to be a rare colour and i'm sure it's one that'll get your approval

I'll try getting some photos up.

Yeah (Ben) Shoppinit is still on here doing his usual thing, keeping C5s running!

Can anyone confirm whether it's possible to change the springs without needing to recharge the DRC?

Apparently it can be done but I har a look and to be honest without removing the front wings I couldn't see how.

It's 100% possible, no need to remove wings. The hardest part is getting the rears out without special Audi spring compressors (at about £800). All I'll say there is that it's easy with the spring in two pieces. I went with the KW adjustable springs, so I was able to set them at their lowest to get them back in without compressors.

I ended up just getting them fitted by someone who could recharge the DRC. I couldn't get the strut low enough to clear the wing with the DRC connected. Your other fight with be the top arm pinch bolt. You may end up having to snap/cut the head off and use two nuts o. The threaded end to pull it out. I then replaced them with stainless bolts.

Indeed, I destroyed the tip of a finger trying to get that out. I ended up undoing them from the top mount. I was fitting camber bushes so needed that undoing anyway. I ended up just fitting them using a portable bushing press rather than the big press in the garage. Unfortunately I don't think I have pics during the process. I did contact a couple of places about having them fitted but none responded to me.
