What do you mean exactly?

As I'm about to change the alternator as well, you can only buy one code alternator for our cars that is available from the dealers.

Hi that’s what I was asking I think mine was sourced from a local suppler. Looking at pictures in google the r8 one looks identical and also a few other water-cooled alternators. Could the r8, v10 diesel one fit our cars but have different internals to give me fault codes of no communication to generator and partial customer cut off.
Iam trying to figure out why after the the new alternator was fitted Iam getting these fault codes. I have checked the blue wire to the bem for continuity and that’s fine. I have fitted and coded a new battery also

That comment is from a Spam bot selling/advertising random tat, I've reported it but the mods haven't removed them yet.

As VaudiGR mentioned, there is only one alternator which you can use for the RS6, any other alternator from a R8, S6 V10 etc, despite all being 190A Hitachi ones, are not designed for the RS6 as they have different part numbers. Maybe they will physically fit the V10 block but there maybe other issues which make them RS6 specific which I don't know about.

Thanks Ian
That’s why I wondering cause I have the two fault codes as mentioned which I didn’t have with the old alternator. Could they have different electronic boards in each of them if they did fit

What is the right part number for our alternator?
Is there some kind of written procedure for replacement?

Part Number is 07L903015C and a procedure can be found online here - https://www.kolhosniki.ru/elsaonline&ve ... sl--3#file

As a reminder it's water cooled so you'll need more coolant afterwards.

Hi everyone, my alternator gave up on me yesterday while on vacation... so tough times to get a part, however one of the workshops, found 07L903015DX,
so wondering if anyone might know the difference between 07L903015C and 07L903015D which according to partslink was fitted on these cars.

Best regards,
Alex R.

According to the parts catalogue it should work fine.

Thanks VaudiGR!
Do you also know it can be done without removing the front/radiator(s) ? Also any guesstimates on the time required.
Asking because I've seen a bit of hesitation on all workshops to touch the car, so I might endup getting my hands dirty.

My mechanic did it by undoing some bolts of the radiators without removing them. You still have to drain the coolant and some gearbox oil. But he didn't have to take the front end completely off

I replaced mine recently. No need to drain gearbox oil. Congrats to the mechanic who was able to remove the long bolts without removing the radiators. I was not able to remove the coolant connection pipe without putting the main radiator and the fans aside. But was quite a straightforward procedure which simply takes some time.
