Gearbox issue

Post by Brufo93 » Thu Feb 17, 2022 8:46 pm

Hi guys brand new to this forum I have a issue with my gear changes when I select reverse all the transmission lights stay illuminated and then can’t change gears manually with the paddles until I turn the car off and on again. I also get a jolt between 3-4 gear very now and again. I have changed fluid and filter had Vagcom do a diagnostic and there seems to be a solenoid error. Just wondering if the solenoids can be changed separately without changing the whole unit.
Any help would be amazing before I pay thousands of ponds to get it fixed. 😂

Yes they can and you don't need to take the gearbox out to do it. Check out my gearbox refurb post it also tells you what size seals you need, not sure if you get the seals with the solenoid.

It will however be a very messy job under the car with GB oil dripping down your arm, it's not the best aftershave

There's a whole bunch of ZF gearbox specialist's in the UK who might be able to help with something like a solenoid change without the engine/gearbox having to be removed.

Brilliant I’ll take a look at that thank you. By any chance you don’t know what solenoids they are that go in the tcu? I have done a bit of reading and contacted a few sellers but they are all saying that the 6hp28 solenoids are different to the 6hp26 but then others are saying they are the same

Thanks again

The RS6 gearbox is properly confusing, and answering that question will be difficult. Different sources say it is a 6HP26 and a 6HP28 gearbox. To the best of my knowledge, it's fair to say that mechanically its a 6HP26, but updated to a hybrid configuration that uses a 6HP28 TCU for quicker (though still not quick) shifting. What that means for the solenoids I'm not sure. Have you tried reading the VAG SSP training manuals for the gearboxes? They're a good source of information. So is ATinOf.

In particular, search and download SSP 283, 284, 385 and 431.

First up the ZF parts catalogue for a 6HP28A61 box, code ref # 1068.079.009

I make no apologies for this being in russian, these were the only guys helpful enough to provide the file to me FOC, hats off to them

You will find ZF part numbers in this linked doc

The guys at JPAT are pretty good and have sourced my ZF hard to get hold of parts in the past.
