Squealing noise on start up
Squealing noise on start up
Evening all, over last few weeks occasionally on start up a high pitched squeal or screech which disappears after about 5-10 seconds. Thinking a belt or tensioner problem but any thoughts welcome, thanks

Re: Squealing noise on start up
You've only got one belt and tensioner on the engine - it drives the alternator. Not only was the belt on my car very badly cracked in a number of places but the tensioner had seized slightly - some lubrication and working the pulley back and forth with a long lever freed it up. A replacement belt was peanuts from a conveniently local supplier.

Thanks Jim. If it is that, is it front end off to replace?

Re: Squealing noise on start up
Bumper off most certainly. You might be able to get away with backing off the radiator bolts almost to the ends then pulling the rad forwards as far as you can get it. Depends what tools you have access to and how big your arms are - it'll be tight for elbow room whatever the answer is.
Re: Squealing noise on start up
The Belt is doable with just the bumper off and the oil and power steering fluid coolers swing out of the way. If you’re replacing the tensioner and pulley then imho you’ve got no chance without moving the radiator carrier forward a few inches.

I get squealing noises with FOT. Only happens with passengers, weirdly.
