I recently looked at couple Cat cars mainly as a 2nd/3rd driver... most of them look okay-ish with some work to be done (but I don't mind a bit of project/DiY during the off hours).
I was wondering what's your take on Cat RS's... to me they seem like a decent value, albeit C6's are now more affordable than ever.
So that poses that inevitable question are they worth it?
Keen to get your feedback (thanks)!

Cat C or D RS's?
My car is a cat S. I would say most of these cars are written off due to the cost and associated RS tax on parts. The inner wheel arch liner is the only structural part to my car that was damaged. However, somebody has bought new Bonnet, wings, bumper and both headlights along with a further couple of grand on bits and pieces. Whilst I’m writing this no wonder my car was written off. Easily £10k’s worth of parts on a car that is roughly £17-20k’s worth of car.
Tbh I’d say they’re a bargain then
Be warned…… most of these cars, even the highly priced ones are going to be a degree of project. I wouldn’t buy another cheap one myself. I’ve easily spent a further £10k on mine. I’d buy one with a full service history though.
And be prepared to take the engine for work almost immediately.

Re: Cat C or D RS's?
I bought a Cat S 2010 RS6 Plus nearly a year ago, it was fairly low mileage and had been repaired by a non specialist but looked good. No idea why it was classified as a Cat S as none of the damage was structural
The bodywork and paint was good and it drove well so I bought it (at a good price)
The normal oil leak was starting, so booked it in at MRC for oil leak, coolant pipes ( may as well when the engine is out) and remap. Found a few faults possibly related to the crash damage, inner plastics broken, damaged or missing ( and surprisingly cheap from Audi), more expensive was a leaking intercooler and secondary rad on one corner ( both replaced with an uprated wagner setup).
Since then it has behaved perfectly and I'm really happy with it, I know it won't be worth as much as one with no crash history, but I'm not planning on selling it anytime soon)

Re: Cat C or D RS's?
When I collected some gaskets from my dealer on Saturday the part manager mentioned that they'd had a RS6 (quote: 'like yours') in for new turbos and some other bits & pieces that week with a bill that more than upset the owner when he discovered that his warranty didn't cover the job. He wouldn't tell me the exact figure but indicated that it was in excess of 10K.
I've spent some £1800 on mine over the last week.

Re: Cat C or D RS's?
I don't mind the odd job here and there so long as the engine remains in situ.
What still bugs me (and comments) above may also validate my 'fears' is that irrespective of low or high miles, they are now 10+ years old and will require regular funding to keep going. I'd like to be proven wrong tbh.

Re: Cat C or D RS's?
Just get one with a full service history and also have it inspected by a specialist before buying.
If you buy from an enthusiast, hopefully you may get a good one that’s had all the usual issues sorted out.
The amount of money I’ve spent on mine and it’s still hungry for more, average bills I’ve found are £2.5K .
Worth it though.

Re: Cat C or D RS's?
I agree fully... for some other cars in the past I was doing the stats on all sorts of things... and when I did it for RS, it struck me when I calculated "true" mpg (maintenance, miles per year, time in the garage etc etc).
but eh... you live once, and that bonkers of a V10 in a regular everyday car chassis, is still work of art to me
