So I carried out my oil and filter change on Saturday. Could only find 2 drain bungs. One on the oil temperature regulator right on the bottom of the engine, and one in the oil cooler pipe just to the right of the cooler itself. Drained off around 5.5L that way then sucked up another litre out of the Reservoir.

Had a good look around underneath whilst I was there too. No oil leaks to report other than some misting around the right hand intercooler at the bottom where the pipe is connected. Has had the oil pump seal replaced in 2016 by unit 20 but still worth checking anyway. The only thing I haven’t check or got any history on to my knowledge is the coolant pipes. Is it front left hand wheel and splash guard off to check the condition of the pipes?

Front right hand wheel (from sitting in the drivers seat) and you can see them quite clearly without removing the splash guard - which is probably part of the problem, not protected by the splash guard

Depending on the age of the car the number of oil drain points can vary between 2 for very early cars, 4 for the mid-range and 5 for the later models.

Lovely I’ll have a look next time I’m out tinkering with it, thank you.

There is just one niggle that I have found with it since I purchased it, and that is it does not seem to hold washer fluid more than about 1/4 full. I can see it dripping out underneath the car when I fill it to the top. I’m thinking perhaps there is a crack in the washer bottle somewhere so I will address that at some stage too.

Mines an early 2008 model so that makes sense

If it's dripping at the back of the LH front wheel arch then it's likely either the bottle or one of the pump seals (cost £1-3 depending on which one). If it's dripping at the front of the same wheel arch then it's probably the main connection in the headlight washer pipes - mine leaked there because the crimp clip wasn't tight enough - first time I removed the bumper the connector pulled out of the pipe while I was trying to split the quick-release coupling.

I could see it dripping from towards the front of the under tray, so I’ll start with the headlight washer pipe I think.

Ah - something triggered me to take a look, all the clips in the headlight washer system are worm-drive (not crimp clips) so easy enough to tweak a bit tighter by a 1/4 turn or so. Take care as the little plastic spring clip in the quick-release fitting just below the LH headlight has a habit of making a break for freedom - I spent about 10 minutes searching for mine with a torch one evening - and it's not listed as a spare part.
