Rear Diffuser Options

Post by Doug_RS6 » Sun Mar 14, 2021 3:53 pm

Has anyone found any good options for rear diffusers but keeping the standard main bumper? I'd like something that at least looked more functional than the standard one.

I'm considering making my own using an aftermarket one and fibreglass.

Other than looks there is absolutely zero function to the rear diffuser on the RS6 as it hasn't got a smooth underside so basically you can go crazy. There's a few different CF ones floating around (all stupily expensive) and a few rare fibreglass ones but the vast majority are pretty much the same design as OEM but with strakes that are a tiny bit bigger - but still useless :D

It's effectively a "this thing makes the car look a bit more sporty" option from Audi rather than an actual genuine attempt at controlling the turbulent airflow as it exits the underbody to assist is creating a small amount of downforce (the real use of a diffuser).

Yeah, I know the standard one is 100% decorative. And realistically making a functional one is somewhat impossible. But I'd like to make something that looks functional. I'll link some pics below.

I was looking at something like the centre part of the first 2 images. Fibreglass ones are easy enough to come by for about 140 quid, I'd want it to flow into the car though so probably mould it into the standard fake diffuser. Not sure if it would look a bit <beep> though. I always like the standard diffuser on my Abarth 595 or the one on some minis.

I had considered making an Abarth one fit but it will be far too small on the Audi.

I wish I was useful with photo Shop. Image

Like I said, you can do whatever you like as it's not going to harm anything aero-wise so go nuts making something that takes your fancy, like that MX-5 pic etc which looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I just fancy something bit different. My car has the Maxton add ons but the rear diffuser they do looks a bit like it's a halfords add on. I had a look underneath and reckon a bracket could be attached to the rear diff area to support the diffuser. The boot floor is fairly flat so not much to get in the way of mounting.

A couple a very quick edits that someone knocked up on another forum. Think it works and I'm going to give it a try. ImageImage

I have a MTM but don’t think they are available any more but would recommend ILR Carbon

I had a look at the ILR one but it still doesn't have that functional appearance. Still looks decorative and the price of £650 for fibreglass or £900 for carbon is quite honestly a bit of a rip off.

Thank you for the suggestion though.
