Centre Brake light issue - connector replacement?

Post by Doug_RS6 » Sat Aug 08, 2020 3:08 pm

Hi folks. Anyone shed any light on this one. High level brake light stopped working all of a sudden. So ordered a new one, fitted today and still nothing. Connection was a bit dirty so sprayed a little wd40 in it as it was all I had to hand. Still nothing.

It went from no issue to not working in an instant so not an intermittent fault that progressed. I assume there isn't a separate fuse for it? I did plan to check voltage at the connector but ran out of time. I would assume it wasn't a loose wire though as it seems to be a constant fault.

Guess this won't be much help. I lost mine when one of the connector pins rusted through and broke off the board. I had to take the connector apart to be able to push the pin out of the terminal. Not aware of a separate fuse and can't find one listed in my handbook.

I think the issue is corrosion on the connector. I was looking to see if I could buy a new connector and pins online but wasn't 100% sure of the correct part. Might call Audi on Monday and see if they can supply.

Here you are. More searching might find a UK source.

Can anyone give me the part number for the connector that goes to the high level brake light on a c6 rs6? The connector is corroded and I'd like to de pin and replace it.

Brilliant thanks. I posted at the same time asking for exactly this. Thank you.

On looking, mine looks slightly different. It has a release tab on the side and a bit that sticks out on the top. Like it gets wider it the top.

Yeah like that. But I'm not sure if there are multiple connectors that look the same?

Just to update this thread. Replacement connector solved the issue. Although it's worth mentioning that you may need a new light either way as it's near impossible to remove without damaging the lens due to the spoiler. Models with no spoiler would be significantly easier. Also no need to remove the tailgate trim. Just unclipped the top part and use something soft like a rolled up t shirt to keep it out the way while you work.
