Hi all,
Officially saying hi and thanks for the wealth of info on this site.
I live in Newcastle and I've had my 08 RS6 Avant since September last year. Came from a BMW Z4 Coupe E86.
My RS is Daytona grey, completely stock, 75k miles on the clock, full Audi history. Probably overpaid for it considering some of the bits and bobs it needs but I was smitten and completely blinded by the speed and noise on the test drive. Overlooked a few things on reflection.
Intention was to keep it stock but now that I'm used to it, I have a stage 2 itch. Major service, tyres and gearbox service first on the list though. Coolant pipes need addressing at some point as well.
I actually had the car for sale in Feb this year because I lost my job to redundancy. Then Covid really kicked in which gave me very little chance of selling it so I've decided to keep, treat it and hold on to it for as long as I can. I'm going to leave it looking standard and as grandad as possible.
So the plan is:
Major service
Gearbox service
Tyres
Lower decat pipes (how loud is the noise increase over standard btw?)
BMC air filters
Stage 2 map
Add Bluetooth media connectivity (any recommendations?)

I'm off to read some old threads.
Cheers,
Hadrian

One last thing and slightly off topic, is anybody else getting RS246 ads with older gentlemen fellating each other?

If still standard seriously consider:

H & R Anti-roll bars, massive improvement in "wallow" and sharper "turn-in"

If standard brakes drill out disc vent holes once or twice a year, braided hoses, upgraded fluid, and definitely the "pheaton" mod, search in here. Marked improvement in "bite" and resistance to brake fade.

All reasonable cost, and will make a marked improvement to the car.

Cheers Andy. I'm using an ad blocker on my phone now.
Funny how the image was always with "RS6 running costs". So is that what I have to do to run this thing?!

Hi Hadrian,

I really think stage 2 is the sweet spot of these cars, taking it from a "hey thats pretty fast" car to "OMG, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!!" car without pushing it so far that it becomes unreliable. As for the noise I couldn't tell any noticeable difference when I took the secondary cats (the big ones) off for my stage 2.

Advert Blocking - On my PC I use firefox with a combination of Ghostery and UBlock Origin which kills 99.9% of adverts for me.

Cheers gents.
Did some maintenance today in preparation for Stage 2.
Did plugs and air filters. Fook me it's a chew on.
Took me about 7 hours today. Learned a lot and could probably do it in half the time next time.
Struggled with the re-insertion of the passenger side rear coil the most. Also re-attaching the hoses with the pinch clamps to the intake manifold at the end. Very awkward and want to replace the pinch clamps for something better.
The driver's side airbox wasn't seated on the rubber grommets at the bottom originally and refused to pop into place on reassembly like the passengers side. Am I missing something?

Great sense of achievement and satisfying but would happily pay good money for somebody else to do that next time 😂

The coil - it helps to release one of the air-con pipes from the clip (pictured) on the left suspension tower, it gives you a few more mm to work with. I find it easier to insert the coil rotated from it's normal position then align it before pushing it home.

I've got 3 different hose clamp tools and those pinch clamps aren't easy with any of them. As for the air box grommets a little bit of lubrication helps at lot - but don't use anything containing silicone.

Cheers Jim.
I saw that aircon pipe and thought about unclipping it but was being stubborn and thought well if I managed to get it out, it should go back in!
I went back to seat the airbox properly and the bloody oil breather line exploded when I looked at it 😭
