Plasti Dip external trim

Post by bal » Tue Feb 25, 2020 5:34 pm

As with most RS6's of our age my aluminium trim has started to go milky and it doesn't look great. I was wondering if anyone has used plasti dip spray cans on the trim to bring it back to how it should be?

I quite like the brushed aluminium so look to go for the same colour rather than matt black which most people go for. If anyone has pictures that would be even better

Thanks in advance

Plasti dip probably won't hold up well with the door seals rubbing on it. Best option would be vinyl wrap. I'm attempting mine at some point soon.

I was contemplating a similar job - but changing from aluminium to black. With a wrap at least it can be easily restored to original and I suspect plastidip would rub off as already mentioned.

Quite like the idea of doing a set of wheels in Plastidip - perhaps a good way to try out different colours and can jet wash back to original if not liked?

I use Garnish Aqua Graphics in Exeter for plastic dipping parts and Eurotint in London for Vinyl Wrapping

Are the roof rails wrapped? If so in one piece or multiple pieces? I used K2 colour flex pealable paint on my grill. It's a gloss finish unlike plasti dip. However it does need redone due to some stone chips.

This is sprayed with the K2 colour flex coating. I'm almost certain that it wouldn't hold up well on the door trims.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a miss then and look at getting them wrapped properly

Roof rails are wrapped in one piece required the interior out to unbolt them if done correctly

I've done a bunch of dipping and it should do pretty well on anything that's not being abraded. I've used it on wheels, door handles, badges, bumpers etc.

It's quite soft, so if something rubs against it, it will scuff.

Unfortunately it doesn't really show but on the Lotus, I mixed bronze pearl into a metallic anhracite for a super dark bronze colour
