I presume that these films are common knowledge.
What is interesting is that when asked about replacing a broken oil pump ,the service engineer just said that you have to remove some axle components and made no mention of removing the engine.
Why do service centres always take the more expensive route?

Yes, the pump can be replaced with the engine in the car, but 'some components' is a bit subjective and depends a lot on how happy you are with extremely awkward access.
Refitting the pump is a real pain, especially (as I learned on Saturday) that the coolant connector pipe which runs above the pump is very difficult to refit correctly. Luckily, although it's stated that the coolant pump can't be split from the oil pump, it can, so I'm going to try removing the pump cover so I can seat the pipe. I suspect that fitting the oil pump without the water pump and thermostat covers in place would make the job a bit easier.
