Impressions after 1 month of ownership

Post by the dog » Thu Jan 02, 2020 12:38 pm

So far I am impressed with the Rs6.
Car is bone stock with only a remap on Engine and TCU .
Car made on a mustang dyno 568 whp (690 crank hp) and 810 wheel NM (988 crank Nm) . On a local dynojet 638whp. Power at high rpm remains flat most likely because the turbos are way off there efficiency point (need an exhaust). Intake temps skyrocket to above 86C during a simple power pull with 4gear on the dyno, It is also knocking . Engine redline is set high at 7200rpm.
What I like so far
Even though the car has not LC , just a stall rpm from converter, as I understand it (first car I owned with a converter) , I am really impressed from its launch .Stall speed is 2600-2800rpm (maybe changeable from tcu??) .. (left foot brake mod on ecu)
Launch is pretty good with a 1.68sec 60foot and with a lot of wheel spin. I think I can drop to it high 1.5 sec with better tires .
0-60mph is good too with 3.19s (2.98s 0-60 at 1feet elevation) ,0-100km/hour at 3.33s (3.13sec at 1 foot elevation).
What really hurts the car times is its gear change time (look at attach draggy pics) . I am sure it will never be as fast as a dual clutch but I am also sure there is something wrong with the tune the car is using now. I am still trying to understand how the tcu is working but if I understand the maps correctly the redline on the tcu for a gear change is at 8010rpm at full load (stock 6880) . Engine limiter is at 7200 (stock 6900) . So the engine redlines before the tcu gets ready for a gear change. The engine load drops so the tcu starts to make the gear change. I think this is the reason why is the gearchange is so slow now.
Will try and flash a file with tcu gear change set to 7150. Also will raise pressure from 17.5 to 18.5bar.
I think the car will drop below 3 sec for 0-100Km/hour with the gearbox fix and also better tires. Thats really good for a car that weights so much
What i dont like .
Car feels slow (for a 560whp). For a 100-200 km/hour it makes it 7.51sec.During this test I bet the intake temps skyrocketed and the car drooped a lot of ignition timing.need to drop it below 5 sec

What the plan
I bought a water/meth kit to install on the car and I will be removing the cats. I will not do complete exhaust system on the car yet. Will remeasure it and see if I find any other issues.
Next step will be turbo update. I have a pair of EFR 9180 that I am thinking of strapping on the engine but they are too big. Maybe I will make mine hybrid maybe a pair g30 770.
Fuel Pump update and 10 update injectors with a low pressure fuel pump update if needed (no idea) .

I see what you mean about the slow gearchanges, but that's still a great 0-60 time. Have you tried timing a 1/4 mile? I wonder if you could crack 11 sec?

Have you seen this video of the GoGi Golf? The tacho needle bounces off the limiter before the transmission changes up. Is that what happens to you?

Finally, can you post a picture of the dyno chart?

Cheers, Nick

Also, if you want to upgrade the turbos you'll probably have to upgrade the high pressure fuel pumps as well.
