An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
I'm also contemplating on the idea what and where next... Cayenne Turbo or X5 M50d seems like a decent enough proposition purely due to driving position.
But in al honesty (And i'm not biased at all), nothing really beats C6 on day to day practicality, performance and reliability grounds!

Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
We have the RS6 C6 and a Cayenne GTS , they are like chalk and cheese. The C6 is brutal in it power delivery but the Porsche is more subtle, however the brakes on the Porsche are absolutely vicious.

Yes, there are only 268 left at the end of 2019 Q2 according to How Many Left?, which is less than a lot of more exotic cars.
The stats are quite interesting, as almost all of them were sold in 2008. Sales presumably dried up because of new models from BMW & MB.
The C6 RS6 was outsold by the C5 & C7 and all the most popular Audi, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, McLaren and Porsche supercars.
Only the Phaeton V10 and W12 were less successful.

Most sold in 2008 due to Audi pre-registering them as no-one was buying....welwynnick wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 12:43 pmYes, there are only 268 left at the end of 2019 Q2 according to How Many Left?, which is less than a lot of more exotic cars.

There are more Gallardos, Quattroportes, Panamera Turbos, Aston Martin Rapides and Ferrari 599's than there are C6 RS6.

Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
Yes there was a recession, but other more expensive cars sold more, including for example, the Audi R8 V10.
Yes, some were pre-registered. In fact, there was a spike of 20 SORN cars in 2009. Gosh.
The question is, do these low quantities make the C6 RS6 a classic or not?
I think it does, if only because it was a longstanding high water mark in the horse power race.

Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
Classic has no hard and fast definition. You can have 'classic' with a low case 'c' to cover any old car or 'Classic' with an upper case 'C' which covers cars with a certain level of rarity/charisma/desirability.
According to HMRC, a classic car is any car that is worth £15,000 or more, and aged 15 years or older.
So according to them the V10 RS6 won't be there for another 4 years.
IMO, similarly, no it's not a classic yet, but will be.
Though if you were to class classics as cars that spend more time off the road than on it, then my RS6 has been one for the last year.

There are 2 reasons the C6 RS6 didn't sell well....
It was released at the time of a <beep> great big recession....
It wasn't for sale long (most likely due to being pulled because of said <beep> great recession)

Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
Audi could barely give them away. I bought one in 2009 and it came with a significant discount.
It’s not a classic just because the numbers are low. Fundamentally the C7 is better in every aspect, and comes with more power to boot.
It was a good car at the time, bit of a flat track bully. I enjoyed my four and a half years mind.

Or maybe everyone realised it simply wasn't a very good car.

The standard car produces less power than the C6, although more torque. It was only the Performance version which surpassed the C6 in pure power terms?doodlebug wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2019 3:19 pmAudi could barely give them away. I bought one in 2009 and it came with a significant discount.

Mine made 609bhp std with no map on MRC’s rollers and Doug told me that the time C6 is still the daddy its the gearbox in the C7 that makes the difference. C6’s are usually 20mph faster than C7’s at Vmax.Albigularis wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 2:25 amThe standard car produces less power than the C6, although more torque. Re: An upgrade to the stage2 C6 RS6
I was recently chatting with Doug at MRC, he told me the difference in top speed C6 v C7 was charge cooler v intercooler? ie the faster the C6 goes the more power it makes relatively? He said that's why the C6 makes 200mph so much easier and the C7 can't?
That's what I thought he meant anyway
Regarding the C6 gearbox, 6th is so tall you need approaching 800ps to be able to accelerate approaching 200mph I believe. When I had mine stage 2'd one of the options by MRC was to have the rev limit increased to achieve true 200mph. Mine changes gear 5th to 6th somewhere around 195mph on the clock....the car is VERY quick to 190mph ish but once in 6th at those speeds acceleration is much slower. I have made over 200mph true speed.
