I had one of those moments hence a quick question... .
I wonder what is it with V10's that they don't crackle well (or loud enough) when compared to V8's or straight 5's (that are in RS3/S3's I believe)?
I don't want F1 sound at all but noticed that C7's sound way better to my ear than C6's.
any thoughts or hints?
ps. during comparison both C7 and 7 were Stage II tuned cars with custom exhaust.

Ive never compared my C6 to anything else but it pops, farts, crackles quite nicely.
I am unsure exactly how loud due to being inside the car and also having double glazing.

I imagine it could have something to do with the rise in popularity of akrapovic systems, a lot of tuned c7s seem to have one and titanium has a different noise to stainless. Initially i was going to have my custom exhaust fabricated in titanium but decided to just go stainless. Don't believe I've heard a C6 with titanium

Titanium will have nothing to do what so ever, with the amount of crackles and pops. Resonate tone on the other hand, will change.

I was replying more to the part where he says v8s sound better to his ear, thought that was about noise as apposed to the crackle part.

MRC can re-map the car to add "crackling & popping" if that floats your boat, here's a YT video of one they did on the dyno of one popping away from around 50secs onwards.
As for the reason - Older cars like the C6 etc stopped both fuelling on over-run (because its a waste of fuel) but on newer cars they can be mapped from factory to leave a tiny little bit of fuel still trickling through which then ignites in the exhaust making the sounds people like. Whats more, because it's now more popular lots of aftermarket mappers are adding it too if you ask.

cheers Ian... mine's on 720PS and it does crackle (more so when running on 99 octane).
Point i was trying to make is that it's nowhere as authentic (or loud enough) when compared to C7 or some newer RS3's for instance. Hence my question is - is crackle/pops/bangs etc purely down to a combination of exhaust + map or simply put, some engines do it better than others (e.g. V8 vs V10 debate) ?
