Headlights

Post by Jim Haseltine » Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:19 am

One of my main beams is now an attractive pink colour so tomorrow I'm replacing both bulbs. Considering that it's a bumper off job, and the extra cost is minimal compared to the cost of the D2S units is it sensible to replace the fog and indicator bulbs at the same time?

Whilst you have the headlights out you might want to devise a way of cleaning the lens which tends to get condensation on it over time and dull the light. Also there are uprated osram bulbs you can fit instead. I plan to do something similar soon when I buy som LHD headlights as the lights are terrible after 10 years of use/condensation residue build up.

Trups does a conversion with clear lense and uprated bulbs. It might be worth asking him for price, I think he quoted me around 300 to replace mine and fit LHD direction lenses. Unfortunately I left the UK before getting the chance to get him to do it.

I'm trying Osram Night Breaker Laser D2S. A Trups job of some sort is likely to be on the cards for later this year when I retire and don't need to use the car every day.

Changing H2S - dead easy. Changing the H7 fogs - not so. In fact, not easy at all unless you're blessed with 5" long fingers.

i replaced mine with Osram's 5.5K... great in combinaton with DRL.

However i must comment that RS's headlights are not great which probably boils down to the type (or quality) of lenses that are in them. Hence Trups solution is definitely something to be considered.

And one thing I learned is that if you have Phaeton brake ducts fitted getting to the 10mm nut inside the wing that fixes the bumper cover on is much easier if you remove the arch cover completely rather than flex it back.
