I've fitted a set of Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres and first impressions are that they are a much stiffer tyre which gives a lot less roll on the rims. Inspecting the Goodyear tyres that were on it they are very thin and flimsy. Sidewalls have hardly any rubber on them. After using them for the last 6 months and seeing the state of them once removed, I don't think I'd use them again.

My front tyres are very bald on their inner edge even though they're 4-5mm all over

If the Goodyear inside edges were bald after six months, I think those shagged bushes were probably to blame? The inner sidewalls would have taken a beating!

Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 3 per chance? Usually a good reputation

Mine's on Eagle F1's and they've absolutely tremendous... well tested on Autobahn runs last summer .

my advice is that if you are not planning to do speeds of 130mph+, any decent mid-range upwards tyre brand would do.

What I mean is the thickness of the rubber wall on the actual sidewalls is much thinner than the Bridgestone's so the tyres roll over the wheel more, whereas the Bridgestone have much stiffer Sidewalls so do not roll so much. It does trade off some comfort though.

Were the Goodyears rated XL as that usually means a thicker/stiffer side-wall?

Having a hell of difficult time buying MPS4S tyres - had 4 companies cancel after taking my order because they just can't get stock - WTF is going on at Michelin???

I ordered a set of 4 through black circles last September, they took about 5-7 days longer than quoted to arrive, I imagine it has something to do with the recent 10% off Michelins or whatever the deal was that's causing stock issues

Could be true, just after a quick look and it seems like the PS4 are unavailable in 275/35/20 so the only choice is PS4S

Its somewhat late (but not quite holy thread Resurrection!) but I can also vouch for the MPS4S, outstanding tyre, and I do mean outstanding - you can lose grip but you really have to be balls out to get to that point. Wet grip is sufficient for how you should be driving in the wet (you guys dont seriously push it in the wet do you?)

You just need to ignore the bill...... mine were 960 fitted, lol

Just wondering if anyone has run 285/30/20 99Y on their car?

I've currently got 275/35/20 Y(102)

But I'm looking at a set of 285 wide as my alloys are 10.5J which are .5 wider than stock and I'm hoping 285 will be less stretched and provide more kerb protection

My only worry is the reduced load index

The 285/30 are 21.5mm smaller in diameter and 67.6mm smaller in circumference than my current setup

Where if I stick to a 35 profile with 285/35 tyres the differences jump to 7mm larger in diameter and 22mm larger in circumference but the 35 profile offers a heavier Y(104) rating

Do I stick to 275/35 with 850kg rating each, move to 285/30 but drop to a 775kg rating but have a wider tyre and smaller rolling radius or step up to 285/35 with a 900kg rating and larger rolling radius

Edit: wheels are 10J which are still .5J wider than stock but I forgot what size they were haha

Would definitely go 285/35 not 285/30.

Just done similar on my A4 quattro slag, stock 235/40, gone 245/40 for the kerb protection, grip and look - plus added bonus they seem to be actually be cheaper. Comparing the same tyre in those two sizes, logically there would be an improvement in ride too.
