Electronic handbrake release

Post by c3nturi0n » Fri Nov 23, 2018 12:24 pm

morning all,

what I noticed on my car and sometime it can be annoying is that when handbrake is ON and you engage in D, it won't auto release by pressing the accelerator pedal. One has to manually press the brake pedal, HB off and then move off. Is this common on RS's / Audi's of this age?

ps. my dad has 2008 VW Passat with auto gearbox that does this automatically. I guess there must be an option to configure this on RS too (just a thought).

I think mine auto releases. I'll check later for you. I do it manually though.

If I recall correctly, the handbrake will only auto release if the driver's seat belt is fastened. Something about this being disabled if the seat belt warning has been switched off rings a bell too.

did play with it today and it's pretty much ON (unless manually released).

Any thoughts if this item could be coded using VCDS?

Ah. I believe that if you've been in Park or Neutral with the handbrake on you may have to press the brake pedal, however I've never noticed it. Certianly if I stop at lights in drive and apply the handbrake it will release when I touch the throttle. Concerned me a bit, especially with the number of tail-enders that happen in Leeds as I'd got into a lazy habit of covering the accelerator pedal so I now sit with my foot covering the brake.

It can on some cars, not sure on the C6 though.

A bit of Googling suggests that it's a country code setting on the parking brake. https://www.audiworld.com/how-tos/a/aud ... ode-421912

OK, so mine does self release! If it's been in P with h brake on, and then you move to D and move off, it releases.
